So by your own standards Warren Buffet, who allegedly owes tens of millions in back taxes should not be able to travel freely ?
Well I am no judge or IRS employee, but if they can provide proof that some one is delinquent on paying the taxes to the country they reside, then yeah why should they be able to enjoy other countries without paying their share of taxes?

And what is this "allegedly" do we not know for sure that he owes back taxes or is this speculation? There are lots of criminals who are not allowed to travel or declared a flight risk before they have been convicted with anything.

edit: From what I am reading Warren B does not owe in personal taxes but in company taxes unless he is the sole proprietor , that would be more than one person would be responsible for the delinquency. SO i have no idea if the IRS would handle this the way they plan on handling delinquent personal taxes.

The IRS says Buffert owes; Buffet says he doesn't ......by your own standards Buffet's right to travel internationally should be denied?

Or do you want the "Buffet Exception" ?

If you have ever had serious dealings with the IRS, you learn that things are backwards. In our criminal justice system, a person is innocent untill proven guilty. With the IRS, a person is guilty untill they can prove themselves innocent.

This particular bill seems minor to some of the other powers the IRS has. (all given to them by our elected officials). We elect these people.
Since close to 50% of Americans now pay no Federal Income Tax, the only people who have to be concerned with all of this are those that make a good living. This fits right into the game plan of wealth redistribution that seems to permiate the Democrat Party's Platform.

The proposed threashold is $50,000 today; but slowly it becomes alot lower !

Even the IRS should have to follow the Constitution. They don't, but they should.

Well it seems like tax evasion is one of Warren Buffets hobbies so I wouldn't feel so bad if he got traveling restrictions until he fixed his problem. Especially when he is complaining about other peoples tax rates. It seems as justified as a electric company cutting off the lights since you haven't paid the bill. And honestly the government would have to have a really big agenda over you to manipulate your taxes to restrict your travel if the accusation was purely based on speculation and not concrete ( or paper) proof.

Not getting a DL renewed has a higher standard....it requires an admission of guilt or a direct finding of guilt....a lower standard than the Reid law you seem to support; which only requires an allegation by the IRS.

Even the lowly DMV doesn't withhold a DL just because you have an allegation of a traffic violation !

yes it does. Unpaid traffic tickets will make it impossiblr to renew your DL. You have not been convicted in a court of law. The state routinely revokes passports of defendants accused of a crime. We can argue the right or wrong of all these but they really are veru similar

Here's the home page for Whirlynuts source on his original post:

http://www.infowars.com/

Among other headlines:

"Black Military Helicopters Conduct Covert Exercises Over Chicago" (Chicago = Obama. You get it.)

"Agenda 21 Brainwashing" (As opposed to Agenda 22 Brainwashing.)

"IRS to revoke passports of 30,000 US Troops" (I bet they'll appreciate it. They won't be shipped out to Assghanistan.)

"IRS implementing Cashless Society Control Grid" (the IRS isn't very well-liked on Whirlynuts' webpage.)

"Join Demand to Investigate Tyrannical Gov't Thug who ordered shooting of baby piglets" (What is there to say?)

Whirly......you are FUCKING NUTS.

I find this legislation (if in fact it's something that's going to be seriously pursued) outrageous, since apparently it provides for passport revocation in case the Treasury merely alleges that someone owes back taxes, whether or not the issue is contested and proceeding through legal channels. Very often, the IRS is simply wrong!

Here's an example from my own experience:

In the mid-1990s, I got one of those little computer-generated notices from the IRS informing me that I owed a rather large amount (to me, anyway) of money for the two previous tax years. The matter had to do with the calculation of depreciation on commercial real estate properties.

My CPAs checked, double-checked, and told the IRS that their calculations were wrong. The Treasury finally wrote back (after about two months), saying that I owed the money they previously demanded, plus more penalties and interest. I sought tax counsel and prepared to go to trial, but the Treasury decided not to pursue the case. Apparently someone halfway intelligent finally took a look at the matter and decided that the government had a poor case. Like almost everyone else, I want to make sure that I pay all the tax that I legally owe, under the law and in compliance with the code, but no more.

Do you really think my traveling privileges should have been suspended prior to that dispute resolution?

Regarding Buffett, let's be clear about something -- and let's take a fair, reasoned look at what's going on here. I'm just as put off as anyone by the demagoguery shoveled by him and by those supporting the silly "Buffett Rule", which is obviously not a serious policy proposal, but please consider just a couple of points:

First of all, no one is alleging that Buffett himself owes any back taxes. The matter largely relates to a BRK subsidiary (NetJets) and the case is not clear at all.

I briefly explained the issue on April 10th in the first portion of this post:

http://eccie.net/showpost.php?p=2391105&postcount=74

I know that this whole thing looks like hypocrisy on Buffett's part, or at least a delicious irony, but I would suggest that there's more here than initially meets the eye. BRK's counsel must feel that they have a pretty good case, else they would likely not want to risk substantial penalties and interest as well as all the adverse publicity a negative outcome would generate.

Please note also that Buffett has the fiduciary duty to look out for his shareholders. Remember, others own the majority of BRK-B common, and most are not wealthy investors. Large chunks of BRK-B common are held in people's 401(k) accounts, as well as by retirement funds whose beneficiaries are teachers, police officers, firefighters, etc.

Over the years, he has produced outstanding returns that will accrue to the benefit of many millions of people.

Here's the truth regarding the bill, versus Whirlynuts' paranoid ravings:

http://www.theatlantic.com/business/...ssport/255940/

IRS has to have filed a public lien or issued a levy. That goes way past the IRS simply sending you a letter telling you that you owe some back taxes.

Get back to your National Enquirer Whirlynuts and dig up some more fun paranoid fantasy stuff!
