Depending on where you are, this is a real possibility. They TAKE OVER the city. It's a horrible time for waitstaff; but at the right hotel bar it can be a LOT of fun.

yea hotels get mega cooked for conventions, including the over flow hotels depending on the event

if you plan on being at a htel for extended period of time i would suggest prepaying and booking for x amount of days. otherwise this can happen around any major event

I came in late to the convo, but wouldn't hotel management have called the police if they suspected something? Just evicting you seems mild. I like the Mary Kay theory better.

Travel alot and yes this happens to me maybe twice a year. The worst is when they say yes we can extend your stay, but the room will be 3x your current rate due to convention, football game, etc.

I don't believe that they "suspected" any thing as they told me they could refer me over to the Wyndham which was next door. I was at the Hawthorn which is more like a extended stay but on a higher level.

Another thread says there is a Mary Kay convention in town. That could be what happened. Sorry for your troubles!!
