Andrew Johnson lost in the democrat primary, one he prolly would have won if not for the impeachment. the democrat party at that time apparently were in the minority. so it had no effect on party elections and the republicans went on to have 20 year domination of both houses and executive.

Richard Nixon, he resigned instead of being impeached. but the effect was the same. the impeachment hearings did him in. Ford lost and there was a party blood bath as several republicans lost seats to democrats.

bill clinton, impeached in 2nd term. Republicans did lose some seats in the mid term. In 2000 election, Gore didn't win, nor did Dem party either.

as for Trump's reelection chances, post-impeachment, surviving one is not good. Goebbels maxim, "repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it to be the truth".

regarding impeachment politics, somebody is going get whacked at election time.

regarding trump, the trump impeachment is unlike anything history has witnessed.

what separates trump from the 3 presidents who had impeachment hearings is the backdrop of a parallel investigation into the circumstances of the 2016 election with russian collusion, illegal wiretapping, illegal warrants based on false premises and ukraine involvment. russian collusion was the original premises for impeachment. none of the 3 presidents were setup in this manner.


Andrew Johnson comes close to being setup with the Office Tenure Act which was eventually ruled unconstitutional, but he didn't have these other issues Trump faced.


the durham investigation could well be a game changer in the 2020 election.

this is something the history professor didn't consider in his prediction. its obvious that he doesn't like trump given the statement he made at the end of the clip.

Just remember: What is the customary punishment for a violation of the 4th amendment? Suppression of the illegally obtained information, if its use is attempted in any judicial and/or administrative proceeding BY THE PERSON GATHERING THE INFORMATION and attempting to use it against the PERSON UPON WHOM THE EAVESDROP was focused.

What is problematic is utilizing "national security" personnel and assets to spy domestically on domestic campaign organizations, most particularly ones opponents.

Asking foreign intelligence/law enforcement personnel and agencies to assist in potentially criminal activity involving international communications ALSO happens daily.

BTW: There is no requirement or protocol for the POTUS to pass through Ambassadors when seeking foreign assistance in criminal investigations. The only Ambassador who would assert such a ridiculous idea is one who was involved in the criminal activity directly or indirectly and was "in trouble" with the local foreign personnel for not alerting them ahead .... of the effort to go over their heads.

A most relevant event was the Iraqi Ambassador talking to Saddam before Iraq invaded Kuwait and leaving Saddam with the "impression" that Bush #1 would not do anything about it! Saddam apparently acted on that "information"!
