He had a duty. He failed to perform it, Very true
However keep in mind that "NO DUTY FOR POLICE TO PROTECT US" the courts have rule that many times
He didn't have a duty to protect specifically.
However, at least in Texas, "it is the duty of every peace officer to preserve the peace within the officer's jurisdiction. To effect this purpose, the officer shall use all lawful means."
I'm certain Florida has similar wording on the books.
First I don't agree with the No duty , However the supreme court has "upheld" that rule.
Also Dallas morning news article states the same "issue " with charging him.

They don't have a duty to protect. They do, however, have a duty to preserve the peace. By preserving the peace in this case, he would have also indirectly protected many students & teachers.
Does anyone know how he perjured himself? He may have lied. I didn't think it was under oath, though.
I can't believe you people wouldn't have run into that school to help.
We aren't talking about giving a life for another adult. That has nothing to do with it.

As I said before, it's about "procedure" and "process." Sad but that's the world we live in.
Do we have any LE willing to give their view?
Instead of suspension, they should get medals. It wasn't that they weren't officially called, it was that they did so without advising their supervisor.
That's a bigger problem if they felt they couldn't even tell them where they were going.
Swat guy
"I'm in the area and responding...."
Supervisor,
"No, don't go. DO NOT DO exactly what you are trained to do and try to save those kids "

I don't know if he was under oath but part of his later statement was that he thought the gunfire was coming from outside the school which why he didn't go inside. However, the radio call he made had him saying the shots were INSIDE the school. Also, the video has him facing towards the school at not at the perimeter. If he wasn't under oath he was still a public employee. His retirement should never have happened and he should have lost his job.
Sadly he's a scapegoat for the gov's failures LE , School , Odumboos school policy's , mental illness
He should have at looked for the shooter , piss poor training , he wanted to be a cop you go toward danger .

How fucked up is that? That's policy....ANYWHERE?
I applaud those SWAT officers and their actions. However, I'm not paying their lost wages.

I agree that there were govt mistakes at the Federal, state and local level. There were also mistakes by the school, law enforcement and mental health officials. Hardly any of these people are being identified and disciplined both as individuals and as organizations. But let's take away everyone's gun.
