Charles, hope you're feeling better and thank you for this thread! None of us are perfect...me, being the least (pretty sure.) Some people can never bring themselves to apologize...it takes a lot of balls to admit our wrongs...and unfortunately, there will always be a few who will never understand that.

The world's most misused quote.

It's not suppose to be a motivational statement. It's a proof. (pet peeve)

How do you see it used as a motivational statement?

I was just ranting. It's hugely popular in self-help books

I always thought it was about self realization. I would say it is definatley proof of sentience.

We can get into the duality of man as well.

Descartes believed humans to be the only animals with minds. He stated that the mind controls the body, but the body can influence a rational mind.

I don't want to get into a discussion of the pineal gland, because eventually we have to talk about DMT, then someone brings up Joe Rogan, then there is a debate about his comedy, someone mentions UFC, then SPIKE, then this is no longer a Diamonds and Tuxedos discussion.

....where is that rabbit?....

As I understood it the quote was merely a proof of existence. During an age of enlightenment to truly separate fact from fiction, one must first assume all is false and start from the most basic principal, and brick by brick rebuild knowledge.

I think, therefore I am.

By simply questioning my existence, I know I exist. It's not meant to be in "How to Succeed" or "How to Find Happiness" books.

The rabbit is celebrating my unbirthday with a cup of tea

A Philosopher walked into a bar.

The Bartender asked : "would you like a drink?"

The Philosopher answered: " I think not". And he disappeared.

Sorry, I know it's bad but it's one of my favorites

PS Lauren, A very merry "unbirthday" to you!

“Do you really believe, (Einstein once asked a younger colleague,) that the moon exists only when you look at it?”

Quantum Decoherence.

LOL, I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the whole "Does a bear shit in the woods" question. I don't know! I've never actually witnessed a bear shitting in the woods...

OK, I'm done! I've said too much and do not wish to post an apology for my nonsensical posts in the morning, LOL.

Just staying on topic

The question isn't IF the bear shit in the woods. It is how far into the woods he walked. Which is only halfway.
