Interesting. I know many NAS vendors (Synology, QNAP, Buffalo, etc.) also offer the ability to set up a VPN using OpenVPN, but don't you need to connect to a VPN that is on another separate network (in a remote location away from the "five eyes"), to truly mask the traffic going to your device/location?

WiTopia VPN. It's like $80/year I think but worth it. Use it on all devices, laptops, mobile, etc.

Whatever you use, do a leak check. Connect to your VPN then google VPN Leak Check and see if your DNS info is still leaking. Then set your VPN app to use the VPN DNS server (or another secure/private DNS server) and not your ISP's DNS server.
