Well there are 2 ways to look at it .

As I mentioned before, PM from a provider are a great way to make a introduction. That really is what eccie and this hobby is about!
We all how our paramaters we use to play. How much money we need, how much money we can dish out (in a day, week, month, etc.). We have preferences on looks, body styles, cost, and a ailability (this is true with both provider and hobbiest). We all play and participate based on what we want, need, availability, and even mood. We all are involved in eccie to enjoy the company of like minded people (one wanting another offering). So, unless one is in a market like Dallas (or any other place with lots of activity), I would think a friendly "hello", can only be a good thing.
Lets face it. We check out profiles because we're mongers and want to know who's out there. The ladies put out their profiles because they want to know who's interested. We guys can reach out to the ladies and there is no reason they can't or shouldn't be willing and able to reach out to us! Pestering, hounding, or getting too dependent is always a negative thing with both of us. However, we all understand that most ladies are here for some sort of monetary need or want.
