Carla was pretty bad, but it also hit a little east of Houston much harder.

The worst storm, (before Ike), was one that was not even a Hurricane. It was Tropical Storm Allison. Thats the one that just parked herself right on the coast and dumped about a gazzillion inches of rain on the coast in a couple of hours. Remember all of the pictures where the freeways looked like 10 ft deep rivers, and all the vehicles piled up after the water receeded.

The dumbest thing we all did? That stupid mass evacuation a few years back. I still cannot beleive all of us, who had been through countless storms, fell for that crap.

And then Ike. This was not the most intense storm to hit us, but the shear size overwhelmed everything. Structures and trees that could take 150 mph winds for 1 hour simply could not stand up to 120 for 6 hours.
I remember all of those storms. as well. I especially remember Audrey. I was on the other side of the storm when it made landfall. We were in Morgan City, La. at the time. It was a very long night! I was on vacation when Rita hit so I missed the mass evacuation. No doubt, had I been here I would have been a part of the mass exodus!

My theory, better to be safe than sorry!

This one combines a lot of maps on one page.

Since were posting links to weather sites...
This one is interactive:

Very good graphics, and shows distance to cities, radar, ocean terrain, among other things.

Who remembers Dr. Neil Franks infamous Hurricane Ike coverage? You know, the one where he said Rita was going to hit, make a circle, get back in water, form back into a hurricane, and hit Houston again.

Default Ole Neil

Yeh, I think in one of the back rooms of his house, he had a shrine built where he secretly prayed for the Hurricanes to come here.

The walls and floor might have been sticky as well.
