What can we learn from Detroit's Bankruptcy?

2. When you run the tax paying middle and upper class out of town because you are rioting and protesting the ideas of inequality and a redistribution of wealth, you may find yourself sleeping in the shitter, only the shitter will belong to someone else.

My thoughts:

1) This is what will happen when a City or State puts all of it's eggs in one basket, such as the automobile industry. When that industry's unions became the tail wagging the dog, the greed started.

2) Democrats have run Detroit since 1962 !!

3) City unionized workers and outrageous pension plans crippled the taxpayers over 3 decades ago and it has only gotten worse. The same shit affected the auto industry itself along with the U.S. Postal Service - too many retirees sucking the blood from present day workers....When are we ever going to learn.

4) White Flight turned into Minority Flight and the tax base fell like an avalanche while the debts and overspending soared.

5) No one mentions this much but N.A.F.T.A., mainly sponsored by Republicans, allowed the auto industry to outsource American, and Detroit jobs, to fucking Mexico. Parts once made with pride in Detroit became made for pennies on the dollar in non-unionized, peasant towns of Mexico...Detroit's problems were already steamrolling when this legislation took effect though.

6) Corrupt city leadership, mainly AA leadership.

7) All levels of government are guilty of this - No one wants to be the bad guy, no one wants to say, "This shit has got to stop!!"...It's amazing that this same old story of tax and spend continues to be written. What's so hard to understand you can't spend more than you bring in.

8) The riots are an embarrassment but are a symptom of the fiscal situation of this dying city, not the cause.

9) GREEDY unions kill industry, as do greedy corporations, and remove any type of safety net when hard times hit.

10) Oh, and did I mention fucking Democrats have run Detroit since 1962.

My sincere apologies thathottnurse, I didn't recognize the facetiousness in your statement and I didn't mean to sound insulting. Ridiculous may have been a better choice of wording than stupid. Decriminalization of illegal drugs has not been successful in any country it has been legalized and statiscally causes more youth addicts along with higher crime rates. Legalized prostitution would lead to regulation, taxation, higher prices and more brothels. I just like things just the way they are, that's all, but it's my opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs.

I am as far from omniscient as a person can be and my minions tried to unionize years ago so I outsourced their jobs to India. Those guys can kiss ass for a 1/10th the rate of a Detroitan.
