Well you can't put Kodi on Roku like you can on Firestick.
Also you can't install any other browsers on Roku.

HDMI output works best and give you 1080p pictures plus sound. Most new laptops have them, so you simply plug it into your HDTV. Older TVs and laptops use an older output, don't recall what they are called but they work fine also but only go up to 720p. Plus you need an 3.5mm audio cable to get sound.

I simply hooked it up with my stereo system and get great sound, for the price of the needed cable to do the hookup.

I have an LG soundbar/subwoofer setup that's excellent. Took only a few minutes to install and I think it has sound comparable to my old Bose system.

My wife wants me to hook up rear speakers but I don't think they are necessary. The only time I notice rear speakers is with a train or car approaching sound and it startles me.

Anybody actually use HD anymore? You can pick up a 4K tv now for like $299.

It's being ahead of the curve. Just as we transitioned from analog to SD to HD, 4K is supposed to be next. HD is 1080 pixels, 4K is 4000 pixels. I have one, but it's hard to find 4K programming. And honestly, I don't watch enough to actually compare the difference. It does look nice in the store though.

The issue with 4K is the very limited shows the are delivered in that 2180 4K format , the upper Roku s will auto adjust as needed if the TV is 4K

In spite of the very limited shows available in 4K, if you look any TVs now 50" or greater they are all 4K and Smart TVs. Next year it's said 4K TVs will drop in price due to 8K TVs being rolled out! Yes the 8Ks will be very limited in the amount of 8K shows available and Roku has a 8K version coming out!

YouTube does have a lot of 4K content right now. Lots of stunning shows of tropical fish, birds, underwater scenes, tropical Islands, etc but this novelty does wear off.

The two are different 1080 is pixels ( the higher the better ) 480 low end 2180 hi end . 4K and the coming 8K are more the clear/ almost 3 d effect . My 70 inch Vizio is 4K at 2180 if delivered ( you can tell the different ) BUT most tv / movies are 720 or 1080 Not high deff . So like somebody said almost all TVs now have the ability for 2180/ 4K . The hi end roku s will adjust for best picture possible ( I know clear as mudd)

Good quality 4K sets will upscale non-4K sources. Of course, there are lots of variation on the quality of the upscaling. My main TV room LG Ultra 4K does a great job on non-4K sources.

Oh yeah. Go into a Costco. I know they have dedicated TV feeds to optimize the picture but some of those 4K source are available to home users. A previous poster is correct, many of these tvs upscale for excellent pictures.
