1. Lucia. In the trendy Oak Cliff area. Good food.

2. Arcordo & Pomodoro. My go-to standby italian place. Great food.

3. Urbano Cafe. BYOB neighborhood place. Buy your wine at Jimmy's next door (see #4). Only table seating.

4. Jimmy's. Not really a restaurant, but an authetic italian grocery store that serves food. It's the real deal.

5. Ill Cane Rosso. It's all about their neopolitan style pizza which gets very high marks.

6. Mi Piaci - Popular and good food in north dallas/addison. Alittle too trendy environment for my liking.

7. Andres Italian Restaurant - piano bar on some nights. Friendly small restaurant. Decent but not great italian. This place has potential if they ramped up their cooking skills.

The previously mentioned Taverna di Lombardi's fit's your request nicely. And avoid Campisi's; as a northerner you will NOT like it.

None of these places are like the many great small family owned establishements that populate northern NJ/NY, where every town has several well run restaurants that turnout nice food and mix a good cocktail.

But the food (and beverages) are respectable at all my above recommendations. And none of them are chains !

Divertitevi !

+1 on Mi Piaci.

Nicola's in Shops of Legacy is not bad, but get a romantic table on first floor.

It's a damn shame that Northern Italian isn't readily available in or around Dallas. Southern Italian has way too much garlic in it for me (almost Sicilian with it's blending of spices) and kills a lot of flavor. Northern Italian (at least for me) is trus Italian. Garlic is way too easy to drop in and call it Italian.

Txclwby ---- couldn't agree more with you. They try to drown everything in garlic and oregano even though oregano is a spice seldom used in any form of real Italian cooking whether northern or southern. And the sauces are always laden with tomato paste.

+1 on Il Cane Rosso in Deep Ellum. Very good Caesar salad, and the pizza is everything its rumored to be. Be sure to order the peche guglio for dessert; you'll love it. Gets crowded for lunch, and after 7pm for dinner.

I forgot to add. About the only good thing that has come out of the Campisi oven is Amber (daughter of the owner). This is her from a playboy spread awhile ago ! If I recall she likes long walks in the dewy mornings, pomeranians, and respects men who have "Old World" family values.

Prelibato !

Fino's. Parker and Midway. In a strip mall. Doesn't look like much but every dish is excellent. It is BYOB so bring a bottle of wine and save some $$. No corkage fee. Call for a reservation if going on a Friday or Saturday. It will be packed.
