While the First Amendment guarantees freedom of speech, the federal statute prohibiting threats against current and former U.S. presidents carves out a narrow exception to that guarantee. The Supreme Court has long recognized exceptions – including “fighting words” that are likely to incite violence and “true threats” that are accompanied by an intent to harm or kill.

Unlike fighting words and true threats, however, threats against the president don’t require an intent to carry them out. All that is required is that the threat itself was made intentionally. Additionally, the threat doesn’t need to be communicated to the president directly. Threats on social media – even in private groups – could be prosecuted.

In my opinion Donald Trump brought all of this down upon himself. Every lawsuit, every investigation, even an assassination attempt. I’m not saying that it’s right but he brings out the crazy on both sides of the aisle.

I expected someone to take a shot at him for quite some time now.

What I do know is that the Merrick Garland didn’t do this and the FBI didn’t do this and the deep state didn’t do this. But for some reason people keep saying so. You keep saying that the main stream media is lying but I expect quite a lot of bullshit lies to come out of the right wing media outlets about this.
