My rule of thumb is the higher up the price food chain you go, the more people watch for trouble. Every hotel knows this stuff goes on, so if you must do it, be smart about it and dress your part and be prepped.

Stick with the usual suspects of hotels, and you will be fine.

I'd actually go the opposite way. With the exception of Hotel Granduca, that is small and ultra secure (card keyed elevators, front desk at entrance), most of the more expensive hotels seem not to care much and are all about customer service. The St. Regis never seems to care much. Same with The Four Seasons.

The two Galleria Westins are the best because you can park at the mall and enter without dealing with hotel staff much at all.

Post Oak Hilton and Royal Sonesta both have convenient (though pricey) and discreet self parking and come up frequently on Priceline.

The problem with booking a Four Star on Priceline is that parking is pricey and you may get the Hotel Derek which has the carded elevators. Though, I know several working girls who frequent that bar with no issue at all.

If you book a 3.5 star, chances are you'll get the Crown Plaza on I-10...not close to Galleria and small enough that you might get some attention, but convenient parking.

Learn to use Hotwire with www.betterbidding.com (or similar bid-reveal site). Look at the info provided on the hotel you're interested in, go to the city and neighborhood on the Hotwire hotel list on BetterBidding, and see if you can identify the hotel. If you can, with any certainty, call the hotel first and see if they have key carded elevators, and any other concerns you might have. They have no idea who you are, so you don't have to worry about exposing yourself and your intentions. If the answers are satisfactory to you, book your hotel and enjoy the savings.

Higher end hotels (in my experience) are much less nosey, with the very occasional exception. Don't make yourself a nuisance, and they couldn't care less that you're there. Low end hotels are different. For some reason, the people that work there seem to get a chip on their shoulder about their position of petty authority. They will be all up in your business. Avoid anything less than a 3.5 star if you can help it. They are used to hookers being a nuisance and causing trouble, so they DO care that you are there and will try to run you off if they discover you.

If you do get stuck in a hotel with key carded elevators, either ask for a room on a low floor, or tell him to go up the stairs to the second floor and meet you at the elevators there. Much more discreet. Even if housekeeping sees you, they don't care (especially at higher end hotels, low end hotels can be full of petty-power wielding douchbags) and have better things to do than worry about yet another possible hooker in the hotel. They see it ALL THE TIME.

Don't steal towels off the maid cart unless you're SURE she won't see you. It annoys them. Take a couple of dollars and go ask her for them. It'll put you on her good side. And if you're in the hotel for a few days, leave a fiver on the nightstand for her when she cleans your room, with a note asking for extra towels/washcloths. She'll take care of you. Most people don't tip them, so they love people who do.

Wear business attire checking in. Look tired. They will assume you are on a long business trip and possibly even take pity on you. DO NOT LOOK A HOT MESS. They see you, and they don't like you. Just look like you belong, please.

There you go. All my advice about booking hotels. Do with it as you please.

Smile Just ask the ladies

I don't think they will tell you on a public thread. Try going into the powder room and ask. That can not be seen by the public

LaQuinta is one of the big NO's for me... and I know there are more.
Any advice, or comments, suggestions would be appreciated

You are correct again MyMynx.

I stay in a hotel 50 to 100 nights / year.

yes...they are pissed you make more in an hour having fun than they do all day (or week).

Yes...there are ways to make this easier. Some hotels I stay in allow access to some floors w/o keys. So I tell the lady to "head to the skybar" or restaurant level and pick her up along the way. Just get past the desk and/or doorman. Many countries/hotels are "girl friendly" and they have to drop their i.d. at the front desk so it doesn't really matter. The doorman will send her up. (love those countries where its legal)

LOL: last week (international) I ordered room service screwdrivers about 2 in the morning. The 20-ish night shift room service guy didn't mix the drinks at the bar. He brought all ingredients separately and insisted on mixing them fresh in my room. I brought him in and he couldn't concentrate with the distraction of what was on my bed. She was still in her disco attire but he got a good look and knew what was gonna happen after he left LOL.

yes...take care of your maid and she will take care of you. A small tip daily is nothing for you/me and huge for them. Besides, I love cleaning ladies and the looks they give me. I've made friends with many of them (and food servers) around the world and have their names stored in my phone (edit: hobby account). They treat me like a king and do my laundry faster and take care of my room. (I even had one organize my zip bag of condoms LOL. She picked up some from the nightstand and put them back in my bag of supplies in the bathroom.) Most of them know I'd return the favor in a special way if they'd let me. (Most afraid of getting fired LOL.) One of these days, I'm gonna get lucky with one of them - there are some cute ones where I travel.

back to work
