Never loan a friend money, never go into business with family and never trade for services. Charge the fee and buy what you want. Just my 2 cents.

well trading would only work if your trading apples to apples. apples for steaks is not going to work.... the apple was grown and picked..... ths steak was raised, fed. slaughtered. butchered and frozen. there is hard money in the steak and not much in the apple.
another way is if two tires cost 200 dollars and 1 hour is 200 why dont you just trade money?
it a whole lot easyer.
now if the trade was one tire for for one 200 hour that would be awesome but that wont happen cause the value is wrong.
the person has hard cash invested in tires and the hour was just labor with no cash invested ......
keep it simple and trade money and no one gets the short end of the stick

My ECCIE Reviews

I kinda get offended if people ask me to trade for services.... I make plenty money to buy what I need and want. And if what you want to trade is worth anything why not sell it and just use the money to see me?

Bartering incentives for both parties...
I am sure there are providers out there who would be inclined to accept a barter if the value is: more than their hourly rate.
If equal, provider could just use cash and purchase the thing being bartered.
But if the barter is worth more than her rate, that would seem fair as long as agreed in advance by both parties.
Pretend you are a client who owns a day spa and you want to see a provider that charges $200 for the hour. I think it would be within reason to ask the provider if she would accept a $250 gift certificate to the spa. The provider would be receiving $50 more, and as the client you wouldn't have to withdraw cash.
Maybe you received a $100 gift card for a birthday or christmas to a place entirely useless to you. The provider that charges $200 for the hour might agree to $140 in cash if you throw in the $100 gift card.
How about the inconvenient rates like $175, where the provider didn't take into consideration most ATMs don't give out five dollar bills. If I had a $30 gift card just laying around, I would ask the provider if she would accept $160 cash plus the $30 gift card.
Say you want to see a provider that charges some oddball number $310 an hour, and you know darn well that the daily max ATM withdraw amount is $300, grab one of those $25 gift cards laying around the house and put the offer on the table.
If I were a client, I would think of ways I could withdraw the least amount of money from the ATM.
As a provider, I would only barter if the value of what I would be receiving were greater than my hourly rate.

Let's take all the other stuff you said, and stick to the last sentence...
Thinking you might have been or still are a provider...
Your to smart to play, stupid....

You must be law enforcement. Only law enforcement would say such a thing, especially your choice of words. Plus, you're in Missouri.

Both sides have merit. Just from personal experience, the successful trades I've been involved with have been for professional services vs. bartering for items I have laying around. If I have something I don't want laying around I sell it. Whereas a certain amount of my time for my services vs. a certain amount of the woman's time for the service she provides seems to work well.

Barter transactions are subject to income reporting rules - IRS says so. People have ended up in the pokey over that concept.
Barter system really only works when there is significant information asymmetry and you have the upper hand.
Like if you can convince a guy that he owes you 6 oil and filter changes for a handy. Then you win.
But if a savvy guy trades you a handy and $100 for 6 oil and filter changes and he shows up with a Kenworth, then you lose.

But you gotta admit, it's been a long time since we've had an alert thread started by some guy that loaned a car to a provider, and the loan didn't pay off.
