I'm curious why the Mods make cryptic remarks or reminders to check your inbox when they read something that they don't like for some reason.

It's a form of grandstanding. Now we have individual Mods styling their own catch phrases? It's like the moronic touchdown celebrations that an entitled millennial NFL player would indulge his ego in, except at the slum level.

That’s a valid opinion. Some do this, some don’t. If someone gets an infraction from me for a long-standing rule, then you probably won’t see much from me but maybe my edit in red. If it’s a new rule, I may make a general public comment so people understand the intent and application of said rule.

It’s more a matter of personal style than grandstanding in my opinion. Especially if you’re dealing with private comments. Some people are bad about checking PMs, not a big deal to me.

Plus, didn’t I just prove that a note to check your PMs isn’t necessarily bad, lol?

if someone isn't smart enough to realize they have a PM then why not let it sit?
