The advantage Ling have is that big ones are just as delicious as meal-sized ones. Unlike so many other fish that loose quality with size including Dorado.

My pb Ling was over 50 lbs. Each filet was bigger than a brisket and the meat was milk white with the perfect sliceable texture. Sliced pieces looked like mozzarella cheese.

Fighting/landing that fish was a hoot. Setting the hook after free spooling out my bait was a moment I'll never forget. Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.

btw, i was chumming/scattering dice-sized squares of kingfish meat just before landing that one.

Me now thincks that was illegal.
Lol

Its hard to beat fishing in general but to go fishing and catch fish with a sexy mamacita like Dorthy would be the ultimate ....... (hint, hint). Then after we catch our flounder we invite Yummie over for some fried flounder . One day ..... my dreams will come true....
Just as long as you have a net then we can fish hahaha

Not much of a movie but I liked it because the setting, Banco Chinchorro, looked exactly like Playa del Carmen and Cozumel did the first time I went down there. 1963. Cancun did not exist. No airport or deep water harbor. I had never heard of the place until I got there; had set out hitchhiking from North Carolina and that's where the roads took me.

Anyways, the fishing with handlines was great, as was the spearfishing and you had to fend off the friggin' crocodiles to keep your catch. Exactly like in this movie.

Shit, now I sound like my old friend talking about shooting prairie chickens where Sharpstown is now. Alamar!
Sorry to change the subject hahaha but this made me remember of when I worked on a tug boat in houma.. This guy used this weird looking real and it had an arrow and thats how he fished Ive never seen it since I wanted to learn...

Looking to be a good weekend.
That's only 6 trout, 6 flounder and two reds over the legal limit. Not good, unless you are carefully releasing the ones over the limit. JS

We caught ling (cobia, lemon fish) and red snapper on a trip to the offshore rigs. Cooked them side by side and the ling was better than the snapper. White meat and filets like a trout. If you go to Babin's and ling is on the board, go for it.

No. Flaky and delicious (the cobia fish meat). On a spectrum of texture, lobster is at one end, then monkfish next, and cobia's between monkfish and the middle of the spectrum...imo

I like redfish but the problem is the best eating are the ones that fall under the slot.

I saw a photo in the paper or some place showing a bunch of red snapper and the caption called the redfish.....smh at the ignorance and lack of quality editors in the various media.

I tend to go at night but trying to find spots with lights are difficult.. The reds usually start biting around 7:30pm I've been catching myself staying till 1am because time seems to fly when. your catching fish after fish.. The other night I never thought croackers could ever get so big till I caught one about 11' long lol..
Damn weather has the fishing all jacked up. 3-4 foot swells in the bay.

Just assume throw back a few lagers.
