Hmm... I sense that you think the answer is "no, a hobby board can not survive without the reviews". Does it mean that you'll be writing reviews once you join ymwv?

Let me rephrase the question: should somebody <cough, cough> start ghostwriting your posts on the Y, should we expect to see the ghostwriter channeling the real reviews you wrote elsewhere?

Getting on topic for real...I believe I joined ASPD just before carkido45 (or maybe right after?), it'd be hard to tell since I never posted a review (I always paid for my access)....and still have yet to post a review. BUT!! I do have a good explanation:

In my extensive time of "lurking", I have seen all lot of noobies get flammed (and be disappointed myself) for too short of BCD comments in their reviews. Sometimes it was outright scary....

Being of "Asian persuasion" and lasting less than a minute....doesn't give a me much "material" to write about in a review; and I didn't want to be lumped in with the above mentioned noobies.....My reviews would be like:

"BCD: We walked to the bedroom....got nakid...crap....over already"

For seriousness:
I don't write reviews for several reasons:
1. You always see veterans questioning the authenticity of newbie reviews anyways; unless its of a well reviewed provider...in which case it doesn't add much and whats to say that person just didn't read 50 reviews and write a review without seeing the provider?

2. Its annoying when there is "drama" the number of reviews someone has is almost always brought up...and frankly I could care less about how many reviews someone has and I usually care even less about drama.

3. I only hobby when I travel (and not every time). So I tend to stay with well reviewed providers; however, I always pay for BCD when I use information.

4. The whole "white knight/black knight" crap on ASPD got old...and frankly the main reason I didn't review. When I first started, it was with only well reviewed providers. My "adventures" were not that great (I think mostly because of my nervousness, but also because other people's description and "standards" were sometimes far different from mine)

5. Even though this is the internet and "anonymous" , I am an introvert and a very private person....Its just not my personality to post a "review" of another person (particularly if it was less than stellar)....

6. I am a young fart...and still working and getting caught would destroy my career...so I am not likely to TOFTT first on a BP girl...now when Im retired, it might be a different story

7. Lastly, I will never be the first person to "find" these UTR providers because frankly its not in my personality to "hit up" a LMT for hobbying purposes, let alone a review. Hell...I would never go up to a random chick and ask her out for dinner, Im definitely not going to ask for "extras"...lol

With all that being said, I do reply to posts. I also participate in private messages. In my time I have seen a couple "new" providers, one in particular didn't want to be reviewed. And the others I would reply to ISO queries with information....now since I didn't have any reviews under my belt..the readers had to decide whether or not to trust me..

Now anytime you need a 2nd or 3rd opinion on some young asian provider; Im your guy, let me know, and I'll report back....lol

Even though tbone2u is humble about his writing; I remember when I first joined the infamous list he had...and it didn't matter what the writing style was like (although I don't remember it being bad), everyone knew that if he gave it a recommendation...it was "good to go".

WW Chess or chinese checkers it don't matter! everyone has there own opinion about posting or not posting reviews, I can understand somebody being private and pays for BCD, but if everybody started doing that who will write the reviews?

The difference is I don't come onto a forum and bitch about those "cheap ass mofo's who don't 'put their money where their mouth is'" ...if I had then you may have said "I can understand someone writing reviews for free access, but if everyone did that who would pay for the servers?"

I'll try this again with feeling, very likely I've written a lot more reviews than you have, so you are welcome. I wrote the first one because I read a really good review of a woman I had seen. The reviewer got it right, it was believable and not so wrapped up in ego that I wanted to pee on his leg.

It then occurred to me, that perhaps his other reviews were equally honest and I should return the favor. Been trying to do that ever since in a variety of ways.

We each are the Captains' of our own ship, you want others to write reviews great! Go write one that will make them want to. My path is not yours, has being scolded ever made you want to do something? Of course folks need to write reviews but there has to be trust and that has been seriously broken.
