True story:
Cousin was working in Paris, teaching English and working on a masters' degree.
Aunt & Uncle went to see him, among other things they wanted toeat at one of those charming little Bistros along the Champs.
The waiters were typical rude and condescending, making nasty cracks at the Americans, in French of course.
Cousin said nothing in French until they paid out. The waiter was looking for his tip and Cousin says in perfect French, "Nice you planted all these trees along the Champs, so next time the Germans can march in the shade".
