Depends on what the subject matter is (with some exceptions):

1. Consent to have sex: 16 (this can be lowered)
2. Ability to vote: 18
3. Drinking age: 21 (this can be lowered)
4. Getting a driver's license (going higher each year-depends on the state)

Then there's the separate issue of being declared an adult (the legal removal of minor status).

I think that was a paid situation...entirely different. Sixteen year olds have sex all the time w/o running the risk of jail time. It's below 16...

Charles, I googled age of consent, and it varies between every State, some as low as 16, some as high as 18. Most have a provision that excludes the charge if there is less than three years difference in the ages of the two. When I was younger and on the prowl, long ago in a galaxy far away, it was understood you didn't fool with anybody under 18 if you were 21.

In NY, where LT was prosecuted, the age of consent is 17, and he was indeed charged with rape of a minor, with a secondary charge of having sex with a prositute. The law states that a person under 17 cannot consent to sex with a person over 21.

In Texas, it is now 17, so if little Miss America happens to show up at your front door and proclaims that she is yours for the taking, feel free to indulge.
