I know all the internal workings of a Ferrari engine.
Does that make me an enthusiast?
Does it matter that virtually every other internal combusion engine has the same pieces (okay some have turbo(s), super charger(s), etc.)
I guess I am just an automotive enthusiast.

BUT, an art enthusiast doesn't necessarily have to know all the compositions of the medium, different brushes, paletee knives, etyc. to appreciate the art itself.

Mark me down as a fan of Rolex and Breitling and Heuer

I need a good watch so I will know what time it is when I pop off with my sks .

Besides , having a swatch watch is critical
When you just "have" to dump a box of lead.

Seriously, I appreciate the attempts to enlighten the board with something other than the usual topics . Good post.

Damn! I thought you were talking voyeurism. As in, I like to watch. Imagine my disappointment when I saw what this thread was really about.

I just bought an Omega JKF Commemorative. Not up there with Lange, but I'm an Omega freak!

I have a Patek that my grandfather owned from 1954 I believe. I never wear it. My current watch is an Omega Seamaster with a rubber band. I love this watch. I had a white face Daytona but someone made an offer I could not refuse since they were so hard to get. Truth be told, every Rolex I have ever owned did not hold th time very well. The best watch I ever owned was an Oris but it was stolen at a golf resort.

a good buddy bought a $2000 Rado watch a few years ago. i made fun of him for spending 2000 bucks on a watch, but he countered by making fun of me for having a $5000 bicycle. touche. later that year i went to Thailand and went to one of the night markets and saw a booth selling fake watches. i found a fake Rado just like the one my buddy had and haggled the price down to 5 bucks. i bought 3 of them and when i got back a few of us met for a couple pints at our favorite pub. I gave the other guys the fake Rado watches and when the real Rado guy showed up we all hoisted a few pints and eventually he noticed we all had on Rado watches just like his. the look on his face was worth the 15 bucks i spent. especially when he found out i got all 3 of them for 15 bucks.

hey... it was funny to us at the time anyway.

I have an old Hamilton pre-war, with an original band. The US-wear is a Krieger of almost 15 years, but I still take a look at some of the works of art you can wear on your wrist. Note: Trips overseas are with the cheapest Timex/Casio I can find. I refuse to die for what's on my wrist

At the risk of hijacking the thread, <JUAN>, what are you riding? I'm still on an old steel Schwinn Paramount with Sante, and love getting it on the road whenever I can find the time.

Great thread!!

Great thread!!
a Colnago C40. it's a sweet ride... campy components and totally carbon fiber. and my 25 year old Masi Volumetrica classic italian steel frame. and my Specialized M2 StumpJumper Comp mtn bike.

and in defense of the watch freaks, i admit the watch movement does fascinate me. seriously. i am amazed that some of these complex movements were invented centuries ago, as opposed to the digital 'watch-on-a-chip'.

I have way tooooooo many old watches including my very first Boliva divers watch from 1961, a 1960 Vachon, and a old Octal...truly like the old mechanical watches but I wear a Skagen for my everyday time keeper.

Couldn't resist had to jump in here boys lol....I am certain I would not qualify as a watch enthusiasts but i admire horology only after watching my SO build a nice business on the grey side. He has some fancy alliances overseas where the pieces are imported to us.

I have seen the pieces that arrive on the Fedex truck to our home only to be shipped along to its new rightful lover. My SO would have his aunt make a specialty cake with a picture of the buyers watch on the cake and send it with a thank you for shopping with us letter. Among my favorites which after seeing for myself arrive at my front door I took the time to research and learn more about are the Panerai, Cvstos, Roger Dubuis, Patek Philippe, Glashutte and IWC. Honorable mention goes to Franck Mueller, Parmigiani, and Hublot.

I heard my SO talking on the other day about wanting to supply watches to guys who dont spend so much. Looks like he will be adding Oris, Victorinox Swiss Army, Chopard, Corum and Seiko to his offers,.

I've been sending him pics of a pink gold ladies Patek Aquanaut.. hopefully he will get the hint and it will be wrapped with a bow under the tree for me in a few weeks....
