Like where are the best areas to stay while there and where not to go?

Welcome Kori,
I suppose the Plaza area is a good start. If you don't already do so, get the best hotel prices on Priceline.com, Hotels.com, travelocity.com, etc. to get good deals. My advice, and others may disagree with me, stay away from Kansas City, KS and Overland Park. That's just me. For other things to do and see, your hotel will have brochures and concieres to give you advice.
