Not true, most tax preparers are totally dependent on income tax returns.
You'll find them in any HRBlock, Jackson Ewitt or Liberty Tax office.
They make $12 - $15 per hour if they are lucky + maybe some bonus or commission.
And all it takes is a 60 hour class in taxation.
Just a tiny few with added education like CPA Enrolled Agents (me) or Masters degree in tax make the big bucks.
They can do the audits and represent people before the IRS.
I'm one of those few, it's my second source of income besides trading currencies.
But believe me, far most tax preparers are totally useless when it comes to anything else then a total standard tax return with only w-2 income, married, maybe kids tax credit and nothing more complicated.
Ask your tax preparer if he/she knows anything about K1's, or estate tax planning and you'll get a big NO from 90% of all tax preparers.
