Energy Independence: Fracking the Eagle Ford

According to data and reports from the Texas Railroad Commission, the chief energy regulator in the state, an amazing story is unfolding in the Eagle Ford. Production across the field increased nearly sevenfold from 2010 to 2011. That’s an average of just under 12,000 barrels a day to nearly 83,400 barrels. Overall, the Eagle Ford produced 30.5 million barrels of oil and 243 billion cubic feet worth of natural gas in 2011.

And that’s just a drop in the bucket of the field’s potential. Analysts estimate that production in the region will explode to nearly 500,000 barrels a day by the end of 2012 and hit a staggering 1 million barrels a day by 2016. That would make the Eagle Ford the nation’s second-largest energy-producing region, behind North Dakota’s Bakken.

depending if the landowner has the mineral rights, you can bet someone has them ... a great deal of the remaining large, pristine ranches sit in that geographical reigon, some not all have oil and or gas wells.

an owner of a 10,000 acre ranch dotted with gas wells doesnt necessarily need a royalty check or have the desire to pass along an empty ditch to their kids and grandkids ...

unlike North Dakota we have plenty of oil offshore and other resources to support us.

To bring this full circle..........California has 2/3 of all US shale oil reserves. But that is meaningless. The environmental wackos have that state by the balls. They won't dare open up those reserves to production.

But they will want us to bail them out when they run out of options...............tick, tick, tick. Check out the comparative reserves by state here.

If the feds ever do bailout CA, then taxpayers should seize all production in exchange.

I had no idea California had shale oil reserves. This is the first I've heard of it. You're right about the environmentalist wackos. California is going bankrupt and refusing to use their own wealth. When they ask for a bail out, we should tell them to go pound sand, or maybe go frack shale!
