The part where you pretend your remarks weren't meant to be "disparaging".

You can't hide the obvious, CBJ7. Your use of the descriptive term "ragged ass" betrayed your purpose. Face it, you've had your ass handed to you again!

Wing area: 3,330 sq ft 4,000 sq ft
Empty weight: 198,000 lb 185,000 lb
Loaded weight: 376,200 lb 265,000 lb
Max. takeoff weight: 414,500 lb 488,000 lb

8 ft difference in length, 20 ft difference in wingspan. Less than 1 ft difference in height. (You may have been confused by the Wikipedia presentation: the Bear had metric first, then English, the BUFF had English first, then metric.) Wing area comparable, empty weight comparable, loaded weight over 100,000 lbs difference, about 70,000 lbs MGTOW difference.

You may be right about missile payload vs. loaded weight.

You'll have to reformat the chart for readability: eccie stripped the spaces.
dude,

put that stat in courier new font and add dots in place of spaces. it'll put the format of the stat properly aligned. this board 4 some reason doesn't like multi-spaces.

A quick comparison chart.

...................... BEAR ............ BUFF

Length: ............ 151 ft 6 in ..... 159 ft 4 in
Wingspan: .......... 164 ft 5 in ..... 185 ft 0 in
Height: ............. 39 ft 9 in ...... 40 ft 8 in
Wing area: .......... 3,330 sq ft ..... 4,000 sq  ft
Empty weight: ...... 198,000 lb ...... 185,000 lb
Loaded weight: ..... 376,200 lb .......265,000 lb
Max. takeoff weight: 414,500 lb .......488,000 lb
Max Airspeed: ....... 575 mph ......... 650 mph
Ceiling: ............ 45,000 ft ...... 50,000 ft

BEAR quotes an unrefuelled range of 8100 nmi. BUFF quotes a "combat radius" (presumably half of unrefuelled range) of 3890 nmi. BUFF quotes a ferry range of 8764 nmi: because this is 1000 miles greater than 2x combat radius, I have to believe it includes fuel from internal ferry tanks, which would normally be removed for combat missions.

CJ7 is right about payload: BEAR carries 33,000 lbs of missiles. BUFF carries 70,000 lbs of mixed stores. My bad.

In short, the two airplanes are roughly comparable. This is not surprising, given that they are about the same age and occupy the same ecological niche: subsonic strategic heavy bomber, converted to cruise missile launch platform.
