Human Beings
All the candidates are human beings with all the attendant human frailties that humans are heirs to.
We cannot escape the limitations of the human dimension and we never will. So just accept it.
However, within that spectrum is still a very, very wide range of choices.
We know what Mitt Romney is about. He's about big business and finding ways to make money by buying distressed companies.
He's a heartless businessman. They have their place in the business world, but a country does not operate on that predatory ethos.
A good country is a place that fosters opportunity for all and provides a foundation for children to grow and develop to their highest potential. A place where people can still build good lives if they develop their skills and apply themselves. A good country is normally peaceful and generally free of strife and warfare.
Just because some of you cannot see it, much less appreciate it, it is no less true that this country is fortunate to have someone like President Obama at the helm. People like him are rare gems.
His detractors are intent on yammering about the indiscretions of his youth, but we've all been there and many never get past that stage.
. . . The point is he has grown past that and now he wants to bring prosperity to this country and he has the brilliant intellect to do it and the heart of a good man seeking the good of the country not exploiting the weak to devour them like the wealthy are programmed to do.

Ah, FastGoon! You are incredible! Your Obama Worship always brightens my day. I wish I could live in your delusional dimension, but I'm stuck here in reality, where Obama is what he is. A lying, criminal politician.

There you go! Pick somebody, even if you're wrong.
Which normally is the case!
You can't hate all of the time!!!!!
Now tell us about the man crush you have with the most unpopular (and incompetent) President in modern history, George W. Bush.
You can't hide it from us, we've known all along! You just didn't want to admit it!

Different Perspective
I happen to live in reality myself, old geezer, but I just have a different and I believe a more healthy perspective on life.
People create their own successful lives if they choose to or can much more easily just fall into bad habits and blame everyone else for their failure.
As for lying and criminal politicians, you must be referring to Nixon!
. . . After all, he told us all himself that he was not a crook!

That describes almost every candidate we've had for a couple decades.
It is a thankless job--no matter what you do 60% of the population will rip you, and 40% will think you are evil.
For that you get less than 10% of a big time CEO's compensation package. And the likelyhood you will be assasinated on the job is a lot higher.
If you don't have the huge ego (going all the way back to Big George) it isn't for you.
Having said that I acknowledge many have also had a sincere desire to help the country as they see it, but never without the ego as well.

Egos of Leaders
I will agree with you that many great leaders have huge egos.
George Patton had an ego the size of Texas, but he nevertheless did manage to get an extremely difficult job done, but I would not want someone like him as a friend.
However, I am of the considered opinion that a successful leader today must learn to divest himself of his ego entirely.
Personally, I believe that President Obama is doing very well in that respect.
I knew that just dealing with Hillary Clinton was going to be a chore in itself, but he put her in his cabinet and handled her well.
Look at all the good things he has done for this country.
He has reversed the foolish policies of Bush and saved Detroit from collapse and brought this country back from the brink of disaster even while fighting opposition meant only to weaken him without regard for the well-being of the country.
If we as a nation are foolish enough to bring in a clown like Mitt into office, he is certain to take this country down the same downward path that Bush took us. Tax cuts for the rich and invade countries because we can.
To me the choice in the November election is clear and abundantly obvious.
. . . President Obama deserves four more years!

You are right in part, FastGoon. People determine their own success. However, Obama is much more like Nixon than any other President. I just hope we get the news out in time, so he is defeated in re-election, rather than having to wait for him to resign in disgrace like Nixon did. Then we'd be stuck with President Biden, and I don't think anyone wants that.
And, hey, FastGoon. What do you think about the Nobel committee asking Obama to return his Peace Prize?

I agree. It's a cruel irony that the type of person who is attracted to power is usually someone who can't be trusted with power. I remember the scene in "Gladiator" where Caeser is trying to convince Maximus to take over after his death. Ceasar wanted him to take over, precisely because Maximus didn't want power.
Supposedly, George Washington had the chance to be king after the revolution and turned it down. The best president is one who is serves out of a sense of duty, not because he enjoys it.

No Refunds
There are no refunds or returns for Nobel Peace Prizes.
The committee members should be ashamed for even suggesting such an idiotic thing like it was an item bought at WalMart.
And exactly what is the "rationale" from such an august group for such a radical move?
Well, Osama Bin Ladin was killed, but (sniff, sniff) he was not captured and brought to trial?
OBL was brought down swiftly and cleanly in a stark contrast to the fiasco that the Saddam Hussain trial turned out to be.
Are these silly clowns actually whining because they want a repeat of that screaming spectacle?
They should be glad that the world is rid of this dangerous scourge to humanity that was cunning enough to evade capture for over a decade, but now they're whining because he was not brought to trial with maybe a bow on his head?
. . . Give me a fucking break!
