Well he did try out for the NFL at 30, that is old for pro sports. It's amazing IMO for a guy who did not play college football to make it to the FINAL round of NFL cuts. There are many college players who are cut right away from pro teams. I don't think it's too big of a stretch to say that had he played football instead of wrestling, he would have played NFL ball.
I think his illness just was too much end. He lost the speed that made him so dangerous. Take a look at the speed from the Mir and Herring fights and compare to Cain and overeem. A huge difference IMO.
