Try United straight from IAD to Accra. Otherwise thru europe and in to Accra. Then it is a 3.5 hour drive or 45min puddle jump to Takoradi. Drive is interesting if it is your first time. Also, don't try it at night you might end up as road kill.

Captain 1962, keep up the trip reports on Takoradi, they are great reading and I am saving them up for my next visit to Takoradi. I have been stuck in Lagos this hitch, but next time will check out some of your watering holes in Takoradi.
