Probably not with the type of "universality" that the others are seeing it as. I saw it and thought of it an interesting image. And since I don't get out much ( ), just thought the opinions of others would be interesting.

The photograph has all of the earmarks of being 'staged' to imitate Michelangelo's work.

I think it is Islamic homoeroticism, the subject in black is actually a guy suicide bomber in disguise holding his male lover

I still remember about 10-15 years ago a series of tragic photos out of Lebanon brought to us by Reuters. Rescue crews bringing out the dead including women and children. Victims of Israel's aggression. Then someone saw the same dead person (a young woman) in two different photos in two different places. The same man was found either as a rescue worker, a wounded person, or a bystander in most of the photos. Reuters finally admitted that the "unknown" man was with Hezbollah and created all the photos for Reuters to take. This doesn't even count the photos that Reuters doctored to make the damage look more severe.

First thing I thought of was "Really? Muslims can love? A muslim mother holding an injured or dead son? Maybe they are people, too."
Through the veiled sarcasm, I hope it points out the infinite value of each individual. That's why we must stop running off and randomly killing them just because they are brown.

Actually, no, it points to the infinite value of propaganda on the naive. The nazi's never captured more than 37 % of the national assembly via elections, yet 80% of those polled in Egypt today think those who insult the death cult should be put to death. I imagine the percentage who'd like to eradicate the Jews and the United States is significantly higher.
They are the enemy, of everyone who is not one of them and many who are just not "enough" like them.
Pity for those who would gladly bash Elizabeth and every other woman on this forums heads in slowly with rocks? Yeah, I'll get back to you on that.

Yes, some propaganda is much more ascetically pleasing. This was sculpted during the Inquisition. But, to the best of my knowledge, Michalangelo did not come from the middle east. I stand by my post.

Israel has the right to defend themselves. They are surrounded on all sides by enemies. I am actually shocked that Reuters, a respected journalistic source, would do something like that. It's easy for us, here with our freedoms, no natural enemies, vast oceans on both sides, and friendlies on the other two, to judge and condemn Israel as aggressive. If they are, it's because they are forced into it.
If this is a staged picture, it's an effective one. Personally I took it to be an Islamic woman comforting an enemy and he was ashamed to be broken.

I kind of thought this woman is a nurse tending to the wounded patients, but I was close, but no cigar.
here is the caption for the photo of the year.
PHOTO OF THE YEAR, 2011: Samuel Aranda, Spain, for The New York Times, A woman holds a wounded relative during protests against president Saleh, Sanaa, Yemen, Oct. 15.

That was around 5 years ago before Charles of littlegreenfootballs.com went off the deep end.
The picture scares me. If this is woman in a black burqa exuding comfort to a dying man, the exuding comfort part escapes me.
