Where are the Femdommes?

I am absolutely thrilled by the idea of being a Dominatrix! I have done quite a bit of reading but would love to move forward. Suggestions on the best way to do so?

what is the significant difference between a domina and a dominatrix? I think I understand but I'd love to hear it from a lady's point of view.

I don't make it a point to "advertise it". Because many seem to think if you're dominant...you're ALWAYS dominant.

Many, unfortunately, wrongfully assume a dom female can't do GFE. I don't know how many times I've told them it's like a light-switch. Turn it on, or turn it off

Darling BR, I believe that in the context of this thread "FemDomme" should be taken to mean the lighter, more sensual and more intimate side of domination. "Dominatrix" generally means a lady more focused on corporeal punishment and other heavier physical play with a sadomasochistic bent. Because of the heavily psychological nature of the play I enjoy, I prefer the term "Domina", which I like to think of as somewhere in between. I'm twisted and can be a bit brutal, but it's unlikely I'd ever leave a mark unless you really beg for it. (Remember the difference between a good person and a nice person?) These terms are, of course, subjective depending on who you ask.

1. A Dominatrix, Femme Domme ( indentifies the dominant as female) or Top are those who assume the role of the Dominant partner during play and does not necessarily include dishing out pain.

2. Sadomasochism denotes two roles, that of the sadist and of the masochist. Often people confuse being a sadist with being a Dominant. Which is incorrect.

3. A sadist is someone who derives pleasure from the pain of others and not just physical but mental as well through degradation and humiliation.

4. Just like with the Dominatrix one should not assume that all submissives are masochists. Masochists seek gratification from suffering imposed on them whether physical or mental. Some submissives do not enjoy pain and derive pleasure from pleasing their Top by performing tasks.

Two great points. D/s does not necessarily include S&M or B/D. 3 separate categories that tend to work well together.

A Domme is a Dom is a Domina. It used to be Dom & Dominatrix (European influence). FemDom is the newest descriptive (I personally think it's been internet driven).

My take (just mine)
FemDom has become a catch all which now encompasses Domme.
Domme = Dom D/s
Domina can = Domme but seems more a "Light Domme"
Dominatrix still stands as the classic old school female Dom. BD

Anyone else noticing the uptick of "FS" Fem Sensual and or sensual BDSM appellations?

Mistress and Master go into the M/s (Master/slave) field which (again) can be a part of or a stand alone. Consider M/s as heavy D/s in that the "s" role is the main change.

Ask around for training. You're looking for apprenticeship offers. MOST D's prefer to train from their own stable. IMHO, that's the best. Subs tend to make the best Dom's. True training is a major commitment. Expect @ three years to go from apprentice to assistant to on your own. That's why good clubs & good groups are such treasures.

Register at FetLife, find some open houses, go to the workshops. Dom's should always be learning and brushing up on skills. Subs too for that matter.

I just did a suspension roping demo last week and it was funny as hell. Everyone agreed it was the first time the "ropee" was twisting around asking how to questions. When you get a group of Dom's or subs together discussing technique it's such a blast. It's always just an open honest no holds barred detailed This is how you do this and/or This is how it feels discussion.
