They're not given all the facts, but they're the ones asked to die. The facts withheld from us are that the war was to empower and enrich the oil and defense industry at the expense of the taxpayer, and the lives of our soldiers, and the grief of their loved ones. It is a crime, and should be prosecuted as such.

CuteOldGay, THAT TALK ABOUT ENRICHING THE OIL AND DEFENSE INDUSTRY IS THE SAME CRAP SPEWED BY THE LIBERAL FILTH....THE OIL AND DEFENSE INDUSTRIES ARE OWNED BY PEOPLE WHO ARE INVESTED IN THOSE COMPANIES.....ANYBODY CAN INVEST IN THOSE COMPANIES, EVEN THE LIBERAL FILTH.......
NOBODY IS ASKED TO DIE.....WE ARE A VOLUNTEER MILITARY......IF YOU ARE A COWARD, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO JOIN......I VOLUNTARILY JOINED, PUT MYSELF IN HARM'S WAY AND CAUSED A HELL OF A LOT OF HARM TO OUR ENEMIES.......

There is a theory that the war was actually based on a government position paper that oil fields of Iraq be secure through any means possible. A number of my family is in the intelligence community and I asked one who is in Air Force security if we found any WMD during the war and he just laughed at me and said "we found oil".
If you do some research you will find that one of the reasons so many hated Saddam was that in the last negotiated contract for oil with the Arab states they got the better end of the deal and that Saddam was responsible for it and that people in the various departments that dealt with this hated the fact and the result was a position paper stating we needed to come up with a reason to go in an seize the oil fields.

Dilbert, we weren't there to secure the oil fields for the US, we were there to secure the oil fields for the OIL COMPANIES so they could still sell us FOREIGN OIL.
And Arshole, while I respect your service, it appears you may have taken some shrapnel in the brain, for which I would support treatment at any VA center.
No one who joins the military is asking for the opportunity to fight and die to secure markets for oil companies and defense contractors. One is not a coward if one does not want to fight in an unjust and illegal war. And no patriotic leader would ask anyone in the service of our country to fight in such a war. It is an abuse of the War Powers Act, and a treasonable dereliction of duty by the Commander in Chief.

did any U.S. oil companies gain any benefit from any Iraq oil contracts?
I've feeling its no. I've read that the contracts/sales went to other foreign companies.

Dilbert, oil companies are not nation specific. Look at how much influence BP has on the US. I know it feels better to think that the war was for patriotic purposes, but it wasn't.

True. In Iran, there is a long history of financial and resource abuse by the Anglo Persian Oil Company, which today is called British Petroleum (BP), that lead to the oppression of the Persian / Iranian people. We just propped up the last coup. The British Empire, Post WWII policies of the Allies and the Anglo Persian Oil company are responsible for the current intense hatred of Americans in specifically Iran and other parts of the Middle East. We were players, but historically not even the major player.
I also agree that since we attacked Iraq, a nation that was doing nothing to us, there is no real way to say that the war is patriotic or just. We just went after them because Bush wanted to. It's just not a good enough reason. Staying in the war lo these last three years after promising to get us out during his LAST campaign is not acceptable either. It's even more unpalatable that we are pulling out now that the NEW campaign season has begun.
