This little old lady calls 911. When the operator answers she yells, "Help, send the police to my house right away! There's a damn Democrat on my front porch and he's playing with himself."

"What?" the operator exclaimed. "I said there is a damn Democrat on my front porch playing with himself and he's weird; I don't know him and I'm afraid! Please send the police!" the little old lady repeated.

"Well, now, how do you know he's a Democrat?"

"Because, you damn fool, if it was a Republican, he'd be trying to screw me!"

Sorry, couldn't hold it.

I've done some research and made some calls; Brownback has been involved in legislation against human trafficking for some time. He has no legitimate control over local issues. I spoke to a legislative assistant and we came to the conclusion that sex slavery, human trafficking, and slavery in general are wrong. Prostitution is illegal but the Senator is more concerned about the former. However, that does not explain the actions of local LE. They could have their own agenda or the agenda of someone else.

I must be naive but I don't understand the "trolling" line part.

I have to comment about how this threading is turning. You are forgetting what the problem is and making snarky comments. It would appear that some people have succumbed to the propaganda that one side is all about bad things and the other side is just confused (but not bad). When I make a criticism of a politician it is because of what they said or did and not about their party. I wish others would rise to the occassion.

If Brownback could focus on the former, then he'd have plenty of support. And possibly be given some specific assistance in how to discern those former cases from the latter.

That's far more likely to work than trying to "eliminate demand".

Default The bigger picture

Here's all little research for you. Brownback was a cosponsor of the Constitutional Restoration Act, which would have limited the power of federal courts to rule on church/state issues. Brownback also chairs the Senate Values Action Team, an off-the-record weekly meeting of representatives from religious conservative organizations.

Brownback has stated that he is a devout believer in a higher power and rejects evolution. Brownback favors giving teachers the freedom to use intelligent design.

Brownback is quoted as saying "Where I think we're really lost is we're segregating science and faith"

Well, I could go on and on but suffice it to say the guy has a history of religious zealotry and he's a shoe in as the next governor of Kansas which doesn't bode well for the state.

One last point, in the last legislative session Brownback missed 123 votes (39.7 percent) surpassed only by Tim Johnson of SD (who was cronically ill) and John McCain

OMG! Anything but that! Form a posse! Burn him at the stake!

I could easily argue that everyone is a religious zealot. It's just a matter of what you are religious about. But that would take us even further off topic.

Let's just say that they're all politicians (well, most are also lawyers) and that is not a Good Thing.

I don't know we always go down the road of assuming that the only politicians that are bible thumpers are Republicans.

Half the providers that advertise say 'I won't go to Kansas' right now. Before we assume Mr. Brownback is going to crack down on the hobby as governor, let's ask ourselves who has been governor for two terms.

Both political parties pander to religious voters, and both parties enjoy scoring political brownie points by 'cleaning up' vice issues. Its pointless to pretend that the hobby is more dangerous when one party is in power, over the other, especially at the local level.

Will Mr. Brownback's lecture result in more stings? I would lean towards the AMP side of things, since they have a shot at finding some genuine victims of human trafficking.

However, it would be very difficult to ramp up the number of hobby stings that are going on right now. They are happening everywhere. Topeka has been cleaned out with stings on two amps and 5 providers. Jackie may have seen one last night in KC(clearly planned prior to the Brownback speech). There was a bust in Lenexa last week, etc, etc.

Question: Why are there so many stings right now?

Answer: Departments are hiring extra detectives, forming new 'task forces', and paying more overtime for sting operations using ARRA money!!! (that's the stimulous package). Guess who pushed this through? Guess who voted against it?

The hobby world is going to be very treacherous for the next year at least, maybe longer if they manage to pass yet another stimulous bill. If Sam becomes governor, he'll take credit for it (he is a politician)....but he'll know deep down inside that he had nothing to do with it. I'm amazed that anybody thinks it matters one bit which party might be in power.

Attending a few meetings and belonging to a few groups in my mind does not make a Zealot. In my mind someone who would blow themselves up to further their religous viewpoints would be a zealot. I guess using that logic someone who responds negatively to anything religion would also be a zealot. I went to church 4 or 5 times last year and volunteered to help hand out toys to children and familys in need this christmas, so i guess i am a zealot too, of course since you ascribe to the theory that we all came from apes, then I guess the logic fits.

Please do not let this discussion degenerate into bashing each others' religious and political beliefs. Nothing can ruin friendships faster and not much will get a thread closed faster.

You know I have listened to how its the conservative republicans which are pushing this anti prositution position. But simply is not true, there must be enough church going conservative democrats out there to push our current administration to go after and prosecute producers of porn and I am not talking about child porn. The current administration is currently taking John Stagliano the owner of Evil Angel/Elegant Angel to trial for promoting obsenity. They sent Max Hardcore to prison for 5 years. They are prosecuting numerous adult book store owners for promoting for having such obscene material as anal sex on their shelves. So the march against sex and sex related business is not defined by one political party.

Wait, news flash, is Eric Holder a conservative Republican????

Follow the money... you send your officers out to conduct a sting, you round up 25 hobbyists. If you were in Lenexa (I know this from experience) you will be given a ticket and sent on your way. Later, you will hire a lawyer for at least $750, you will go to court and they will fine you at least $500 and then you will be sentenced to some sort of rehab which costs you (drumroll please) $500. I forgot court costs of about $80 and you lose a day of work. You get probation for a year and I guess they hope you screw up again "cha-ching". So each person arrested puts about $2000 into the city economy. 25 guys = $50,000. Now... do you see my point?

The fact of the matter is that, no matter what euphamisms that are used, this hobby is illegal in both Kansas and Missouri, and our friends in blue will do whatever they can to try to stop its practice, because they have politicians in charge of their financing wanting to keep themselves in power and remain elected (regardless of party affiliation) since the overwhelming majorty of their constituents think that this hobby is immoral, or wrong, or whatever other negative can be applied. And, unlike other illegal activities that they are trying to enforce, the participants are easy to entice into their traps and stings and offer the path of least resistance in order to remain out of the spotlight and obtain as much money as they can (as has been pointed out in previous posts).

The only way that this threat to hobbyists and providers will be alleviated is by electing representatives at the local and state level that are open-minded enough and "brave" enough to propose legislation and ordinances to regulate and tax participation in this hobby.
