Default Waco Kid's College Football Week 3

What is Waco Kid's Weekly College Football Review? It is an ongoing weekly review of all things College Football!!

Each week upcoming games can be discussed and predictions made, name-calling after victories and general all-around college football discussion! Each week will be closed out by the next Monday and a new thread opened for the current college football schedule for each week.

Rules -

"Rules?? We don't need no stinkin’ rules!”

Actually we do.

WKWCFR rule 1

"Lies, damn lies and statistics!"

British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli

If you quote a stat, record, 3rd down conversion rate, an all-time mark or the number of jock straps an 85-man team needs ...

Post it! If you can't post a link to it, it's bogus!
What's valid in the Internet age? Just about anything! Any of the major sports publications, local newspapers, any of the big networks and official school and NCAA sites just to cover the big ones.

WKWCFR rule 2

Predictions must be posted 1 day in advance! If you haven't read the sports page and figgured out who's going to win by the day before ya never will!

Must be time stamped before Midnight the day before game-day, for any weekly games Thur-Sun on the current weekly schedule.

So there you have it, pretty basic! You can post on general topics of your favorite teams regardless of that week's opponent. Just remember WKWCFR rule 1

Auburn's luck runs out on the road, Clemson plays jacked at home, bags War Eagles.
Winner: West Virginia
Tough first road test for WVa, going all in with Holgerson.
Winner: TCU
Horned Frogs get just what they need, a strong home game to get rolling.
Winner: Nebraska
On paper this is all Bugeaters, Offense better play well early. Show me Bo.
Winner: Florida
Willy and FatAssWeis continue Gators rule of Vols.
Winner: Wisconsin
This is second best lock win for the top teams, Badgers continue to look strong early.
Winner: Notre Dame
Sorry Sparty, going all in with Kelly and the Irish at home to get big upset.
Winner: Texas
The offense responds to another McCoy, look for Malcolm Brown to get going early. UT could use strong defensive game. Hook'em Horns!
Winner: Oregon
Mizzu St. AND Mizzu together couldn't beat duckies in their Nike pond.
Winner: Va Tech
No time for a J Madison at home this year, Beamer. Put it away early.
Winner: S Carolina
Going all in with Steve Superior, whoever he plays at QB.
Winner: Baylor
Only second game after big upset over TCU, now show me you can play great again.
Winner: Arizona St.
Going all in with Erickson, the Zooker takes one on the chin at home. Ouch.
Winner: S Florida
I hate Skippy, the bastard son of the redheaded pipsqueak but S Fla way too much at home for Rattlers.
Winner: Texas A&M
Better make spuds outta Duncan Idaho Shermy, there's no potato in S-E-C.
Winner: Alabama
Absolute lock. WIN, BAMA. Book it Danno.
Winner: Arkansas
Hoggheads could get a bit of test from another high scoring team, here's where Hogs need SEC defense to avoid a shootout.

Going all in with Luke Skywalker. U go Brutus Buckeye.
Winner: Oklahoma
Tough one to call, was leaning toward FSU but now's the time your veteran QB saves ya Sooners. U listening Bobbo?

Tulsa has some firepower Gundy, good time for a strong defensive game Pokes.
Winner: Stanford
The Cardinal also gets a veteran QB performance to win closer than expected road test on Stoops II.

3 LSU

25 Miss St

Winner: LSU

Lester rolls. Mikey, it's early but count yourselves on the short list with OU, Stanford and Wisconsin as one the very best teams so far this year. Roar!

Friday, Sep 16

4 Boise St

Toledo
8:00pm ET

Winner: Boise St.
Toledo gave Ohio St. a run in Columbus last week, this week expect them to get Smurfed.

4 Boise St 40

Toledo 15
Boise St. just does one thing. WIN. Could they win in a Big 6 conference? Yep. Some say injuries would suddenly happen, no more so that the Goddess of Football Luck smiles on you, or not. Boise is good enough to contend for any Big 6 league title.

  • Saturday, Sep 17
Winner: Clemson
Auburn's luck runs out on the road, Clemson plays jacked at home, bags War Eagles.

Told Ya. On paper Clemson had the best 5 star haul, if half these kids pan out Tigers could be .. a conteda, Stella! In the ACC that is.
Winner: West Virginia
Tough first road test for WVa, going all in with Holgerson.

18 W Virginia 37

Maryland 31
All offensive gurus know that Defense sometimes is your best offense. If DH takes WVa farther than RichRod, his defense will be the key.

Winner: TCU
Horned Frogs get just what they need, a strong home game to get rolling.
There's no place like home, Froggies. While TCU isn't a Rose Bowl team this year, they are a good team. A mark of a great staff are teams that get better as the season goes on, and Patty's teams always get better.
Winner: Nebraska
On paper this is all Bugeaters, Offense better play well early. Show me Bo.

Washington 38
11 Nebraska 51
This turned into more of a tussle than Bo woudla liked, not exactly BlackShirt defense was it Bo? Pelini will now run around Lincoln next week with a Cob up his Ass with his defense in practice. LOL. If Bugeaters keep their QB healthy and on-track only Wisconsin is the better team in the Big Ten right now.

Winner: Florida
Willy and FatAssWeis continue Gators rule of Vols.

Tennessee 23
16 Florida 33
Willy M the traitor and his FatAss OC have Gators QB looking like .. a QB. He's still Brantley not Brady but Gators QB and offense under FatAss Weis better match than Urbie's spread. We'd miss you in Austin but Manny Diaz looks as good or better than you. Good luck with that Gators gig.

Winner: Wisconsin
This is second best lock win for the top teams, Badgers continue to look strong early.
7 Wisconsin 49

N Illinois 7
Badgers new QB gives the normally grind-it-out Wisconsin a VY or Vick like runner at this position. Right now i'll put Badgers as one-half my early BCS title match-up. the other - LSU.

Winner: Notre Dame
Sorry Sparty, going all in with Kelly and the Irish at home to get big upset.

15 Michigan St 13

Notre Dame 31
Told Ya. Doesn't mean Sparty isn't good and won't contend in the Big Ten, just that i figured Kelly was due. I despise ND party due to their coaches and not just the pipsqueak and ND has UT's number in big games, but i like Kelly.

Winner: Texas
The offense responds to another McCoy, look for Malcolm Brown to get going early. UT could use strong defensive game. Hook'em Horns!

23 Texas 49

UCLA 20
Told Ya. We're Back. He's the Real McCoy. Oh, he'll have a few learning moments yet to come but anyone think this kid's upside isn't 10 times Gilbert Grape's? Some players just get it when the game's on, this kid gets it done.

Winner: Oregon
Mizzu St. AND Mizzu together couldn't beat duckies in their Nike pond.

Missouri St. 7
12 Oregon 56
Duckies roll, that early "bowl game" loss to LSU could give Oregon points for "quality" loss but more importantly it's what they learned from the loss that could hold sway in the PAC 12. Ducks still my top pick.

Winner: Va Tech
No time for a J Madison at home this year, Beamer. Put it away early.

Arkansas St 7
13 VA Tech 26
U Hokies started slow, again. TWK has warned ya for the last time LOL. at least no JM disaster so move on and work on that offense! Beamer's a great coach, his strong hand has always been Defense & great specials teams, his bane - inconsistency on offense.

Winner: S Carolina
Going all in with Steve Superior, whoever he plays at QB.

Navy 21
10 S Carolina 24
This was a Rocky vs. Apollo thing, Navy is like a southpaw boxer with the option, the key was SC's defense holding Middies from big rushing day. And countering with Lattimore for 246 helped just a bit. Who says the 'Ol Ball Coach only likes QB's?
Winner: Baylor
Only second game after big upset over TCU, now show me you can play great again.
Nice one Bears. Well done. Art Briles is a good fit for Baylor, no matter how Shermy at A&M turns out, this is the guy i thought A&M should have hired.
Winner: Arizona St.
Going all in with Erickson, the Zooker takes one on the chin at home. Ouch.
22 Arizona St 14

Illinois 17
Well the Zooker has some fight left yet, eh Chief Illiwek? It'll be difficult for Zooker to bag 9 wins the way the Big Ten is looking this year. That's his so-called magic number not to get fired. GL with that.
Winner: S Florida
I hate Skippy, the bastard son of the redheaded pipsqueak but S Fla way too much at home for Rattlers.

Florida A&M 17
20 S Florida 70
Well you may be the pipsqueak's spawn lol but impressive none the less. Only one more tune-up before Big East play, make it count Skippy.

Winner: Texas A&M
Better make spuds outta Duncan Idaho Shermy, there's no potato in S-E-C.

Idaho 7
9 Texas A&M 37
A nice day for you down in aggieland. Gives Shermy a good tune-up for the real schedule. BTW we've invited a coupla kids over for Thanksgiving, you may know them, McCoy and Shipley? See ya at Dinner.

Winner: Alabama
Absolute lock. WIN, BAMA. Book it Danno.

N Texas 0
2 Alabama 41
If Saban had wanted to score 60 he probably could have, even Nicky Satan cut-throat as he is doesn't tempt a bitch slap from the Goddess of Football karma. He makes his point and lets off.

Winner: Arkansas
Hoggheads could get a bit of test from another high scoring team, here's where Hogs need SEC defense to avoid a shootout.

Troy 28
14 Arkansas 38
Told ya to watch Troy on offense, Hogs still the better team and Bobbo usually holds up his end on offense. But Troy's not 'Bama, hogs.

Winner: Ohio St.
Going all in with Luke Skywalker. U go Brutus Buckeye.

17 Ohio St 6

Miami (FL) 24
The Dark side arrives, Luke. Welcome to coaching. Better luck next week.

Winner: Oklahoma
Tough one to call, was leaning toward FSU but now's the time your veteran QB saves ya Sooners. U listening Bobbo?

1 Oklahoma 23
5 Florida St 13
Big Game Bozo gets his win. You join the early short list of contenders, Sooners. Only LSU has a better quality W at this point in the season.

Winner: Oklahoma St.
Tulsa has some firepower Gundy, good time for a strong defensive game Pokes.

8 Okla St 59

Tulsa 33
Tough break for Tulsa losing QB, this still could be OSU defense's weakness, passing coverage.

Winner: Stanford
The Cardinal also gets a veteran QB performance to win closer than expected road test on Stoops II.

6 Stanford 37

Arizona 10
It's still Stanford vs. Oregon as the best of the PAC 12.

Olin Buchanan
Texas has found a quarterback. Mack Brown will probably continue to use true freshman David Ash, but after Saturday's 49-20 victory over UCLA, there should be no doubt that sophomore Case McCoy is the Longhorns' starter. McCoy was 12-of-15 for 168 yards and two touchdowns. More than that, he showed poise, leadership and big-play ability. On one play late in the first half, he stepped away from two possible sacks and completed a pass inside UCLA's 5. He threw a touchdown pass on the next play. Texas hasn't had that kind of play out of its quarterback since McCoy's older brother left two years ago.
Notre Dame has a top-20-caliber team. The doubters and skeptic were out in full force after Notre Dame's first two losses, but the Fighting Irish came back with a dominant showing in a 31-13 victory over Michigan State. Notre Dame got big plays from its running game, defense and special teams. The Irish committed three turnovers, but it's clear when Notre Dame avoids turnovers -- or at least reduces them -- the Irish are good enough to finish in the top 20.

[Related: Florida State loses swagger in loss to Oklahoma]

Tom Dienhart
Oklahoma is good -- but not great. Oklahoma used a workmanlike effort to dispose of Florida State 23-13. But it wasn't a dominating performance against a Seminoles team that played most of the second half with a redshirt freshman quarterback. Are the Sooners really the best team in the nation? I don't think so. Yes, Oklahoma has a better quarterback than Alabama or LSU. But I think Alabama and LSU are better overall. Each team has a superior defense. And each team has a more physical rushing attack.
On Wisconsin. Wisconsin looks like a national title contender. Wisconsin's 49-7 triumph over Northern Illinois was the Badgers' latest impressive win for a program that has been taken to another level offensively by QB Russell Wilson, who threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns. Wisconsin has one last tune-up before beginning Big Ten play at home against Nebraska on Oct. 1 in what could be a preview of the inaugural league title game.

[GamecockCentral: More and more, Lattimore]

David Fox

Illinois' Steve Hull celebrates the Illini's 17-14 victory over Arizona State.

The SEC East is down to Florida and South Carolina, for now. According to conventional wisdom, the winners of Tennessee-Florida and South Carolina-Georgia would be the front-runners in the SEC East. True, Florida and South Carolina have a head start, but neither the Gators nor the Gamecocks look anything like their counterparts in the West. Florida can be proud of its 33-23 win over Tennessee on Saturday, but the Gators' offense remains a work in progress. The Gators' offense disappeared at times and UF squandered opportunities to bury Tennessee. Florida started four drives in Tennessee territory and finished those possessions with as many punts (one) as touchdowns. And what can I say about South Carolina? It's no surprise to see Navy's option cause problems, even for top teams. But this is becoming a trend for the Gamecocks. South Carolina surrendered 436 total yards to Georgia, then 274 rushing yards to Navy. Every team will have its lapses, but I wonder what's going to happen to Florida and South Carolina when they step out against the SEC West. In that category, South Carolina has a major advantage since it skips Alabama and LSU. Florida will need its offense to catch up to its defense and special teams to challenge both in early October.
It's time to start paying attention to Illinois. With so much going on Saturday night with Oklahoma's win over Florida State, South Carolina's close call with Navy and Miami's rout of Ohio State, it was easy to lose track of perhaps the biggest statement game for any team besides Oklahoma. Illinois defeated Arizona State 17-14 with a great defensive effort against Sun Devils QB Brock Osweiler. The Illini sacked Osweiler six times and intercepted him twice, and QB Nathan Scheelhaase did enough on the ground and in the air to win. Name a Big Ten team that struggled through the first two weeks of the season and they're on Illinois' schedule: Northwestern, Indiana, Ohio State, Purdue, Penn State and Minnesota. The toughest games, Wisconsin and Michigan, are at home. Illinois might not play for a Big Ten title, but the Illini may be in good position for a 10-win season.

[HuskerOnline: Nebraska outguns Washington]

Mike Huguenin
Nebraska's defense isn't that good. Behind QB Taylor Martinez, the Huskers' offense has looked darned good so far -- as in good enough to win the Big Ten. The defense, though, has to have coach Bo Pelini raging in the film room. It was gashed last week by Fresno State and this week by Washington. Injured CB Alfonzo Dennard has been missed, and DT Jared Crick and LB Lavonte David have been good but not outstanding. The Huskers get one final tuneup next week against Wyoming before they travel to Wisconsin on Oct. 1. Given the way his defense has played, Pelini can't feel too comfortable right now about that visit to Madison.
The best record in Florida will belong to .... Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Florida International. The Golden Panthers won at Louisville last week, their first win over a Big Six team in school history. This week, they beat UCF despite playing most of the game without star WR T.Y. Hilton. UCF was coming off a dominating performance against Boston College, and talk again was emanating out of Orlando that UCF "belonged" in a Big Six league. After Saturday, that talk is going to go away for a while. FIU's defense shut down UCF's running game in helping the Golden Panthers move to 3-0. The last non-conference game left for FIU is Duke; other than that, every other game is against a Sun Belt Conference opponent. It's not a stretch to say FIU could finish 12-0. More likely, the Golden Panthers will finish 11-1 or 10-2, but they easily could end up with the most wins of any team in Florida. Expect coach Mario Cristobal, a former Miami player and assistant, to be a hot commodity when other schools start searching for coaches in December.

[College Football Pick'em: Sign up and play today]

Steve Megargee
Georgia Tech is the nation's most fun team to watch. I'm still not convinced Georgia Tech's defense is good enough to allow the Yellow Jackets to make a serious run at the ACC title, but you can't take your eyes off this offense. Tech set an ACC record Saturday with 604 rushing yards and set a school record with 768 total yards in a 66-24 beatdown of Kansas. Orwin Smith's 95-yard touchdown run on the Yellow Jackets' first play from scrimmage was their sixth play of at least 70 yards this season. They're averaging 59.3 points per game, 10.3 yards per play and 7.9 yards per carry. This team can score from anywhere on the field at any given moment.
Never count Case Keenum out. The Houston quarterback delivered one of the most memorable performances of his record-setting career Saturday by bringing the Cougars all the way back from a 27-point deficit. Houston trailed Louisiana Tech 34-7 before scoring 28 unanswered points in the final 20 minutes of the game. Keenum started the comeback with a 50-yard touchdown pass to Patrick Edwards, and he hit Edwards again for the winning 32-yard touchdown with less than two minutes left. This wasn't the first time Keenum's done this. During the 2008 season, Keenum rallied Houston from 19 points down against UTEP and erased a 17-point deficit against UAB.

If yer Aztecs win, probably so. Unfortunately the "waiting list" for the Coach's poll has SDSU behind 13 other teams.

Others Receiving Votes:
  • Michigan St. 42,
  • Auburn 29,
  • Houston 25,
  • Miami (FL) 23,
  • Utah 19,
  • Iowa St. 19,
  • Ohio St. 16,
  • Maryland 15,
  • Mississippi St. 14,
  • Missouri 10,
  • Arizona St. 9,
  • Vanderbilt 8,
  • Notre Dame 8,
  • San Diego St. 8,
  • Georgia 7,
  • Florida Intl. 4,
  • Navy 3,
  • California 3,
  • Tennessee 2,
  • North Carolina 2

Hillman running for 191 on Wa State is one thing, doing that in the Big House might prove a little harder. Still, UM is ranked again, mostly on Rep so if you do take 'em out and depending on how next week's top 25 games shake out you'd have a good shot at cracking the Coaches poll.

Even the Coaches poll has some bias in it, old school rep and all that, sometimes when a team like SDSU has a good team it may take a while for some of the so-called elite to falter for ya to get in. Put it this way BF, would ya rather be ranked now or at the end when we really know who's good?
