Traveling Partner

When finding a traveling partner, what do folks look for? Someone who vacations in the same manner as you?

Is mutual traveling style important? If one enjoys guided tours while the other prefers the independent style, would that be an issue?

Would you prefer you and your friend hang out together the entire trip? Or each occasionally do their own between breakfast & supper and discuss their unique adventures in the evenings?

I have vacationed solo and with a friend in the past. When I traveled with my friend, we went on the guided tours together as well ate breakfast and dinner together. Occasionally, we would do our own thing during the afternoons.

By the way, I am talking about taking a platonic friend/acquaintance (same sex or diff) and not hiring a provider (e.g., being on the clock).

I used to joke about a final test I would do before marriage. Starting in England, we would have to travel together for a month before we reached a beautiful romantic ancient church I found in Salzburg, Austria. If we were still together at that point, the marriage could potentially last.

Bottom line, traveling with another person for an extended period of time is one of the hardest things to do. It quickly highlights incompatibilities as there are so many choices and so many different paths to take in the process including money budgeting issues.

All I can say is that in retrospect, I wish I had taken my own advice!
