As a Senator, Obama was one of very very few who stood up to the wholesale madness in Washington and opposed the Iraq war. I opposed it too from day one, but I did not have the pressure that a senator has to endure.

The man has balls and a rare degree of intelligence and his heart is in the right place.

After the buffoon cowboy we had in the White House, he is the reassuring breath of fresh air that this country so badly needs.

For the record Obama was an Illinois State Senator when he initially opposed the spring 2003 invasion of Iraq. He was not sworn into the US Senate until January '05. You are correct in saying that he was one of the few political figures who openly opposed the war in Iraq from the outset! And I, along with you, believe he was 100% correct in doing so.

I initially favored the Bush Administration's actions in Afghanistan in the aftermath of 9/11. By the same token, I expressed countless times that GW lost his focus during the spring of '03 when he authorized the invasion of Iraq. I came under intense scrutiny on the P for making my feelings known but I felt I was correct at the time and I am even more convinced today. I can only imagine the pressure that a 3 term State Senator from Illinois must have felt when he spoke against the War in Iraq during the spring of '03.

Pawlenty
Daniels
Huntsman, Palin, Perry and whoever else is too boring to be remembered.

The Repub's have already started shooting themselves at every oppty. Bachmann laughably endorses Intelligent Design being taught in schools. Romney refuses to sign the "Anti-Abortion" platform that all the others did, so they attack him. Romney still hasn't proven his health care program in Mass. was much different than Obama's. Santorum sounds like a tent revivalist. Pawlenty puts people to sleep better than sex.

Bottom line is, the GOP will need to create a viable candidate that independents will like more than Obama. From the list I've assembled above, I just don't see it. Yet. But who knows...maybe one more recessionary dip may change things.

I have claimed all along that Romney would be the most viable oppenent vs Obama in the general election. I do not believe there is a close 2nd. Romney's problem is that he has to get out of the primary. The chances of a Republican who practices the Morman faith getting out of the primary is not very good. When you add his health care plan to the mix and all of a sudden Romney's chances are much closer to none than slim!

With 54% of American households not paying federal income taxes, it is an uphill battle for any Republican candidate...those 54% will keep demanding more and more free shit from the 46% of us who have to foot the bill.
