Monterrey is not bad at all... The border towns like Juarez, Laredo and Tijuana is where you have to worry about.. Monterrey is safer than most Large cities... Dude, I would go but I actually might be down there in Jan... I'll let you guys know if I'm there...

Dont talk of what you dont know bola de pendejos, Monterrey as any other city in Mexico is as safe as any city in the US, there are times and places where you should not go and just dont expose yourself or go picking fights. I travel every week to a different city in Mexico, including the border towns in Mexico.
