Beryl was only a Cat-1 hurricane.

FACTS:

21 names per average each season are on a list of names for hurricanes and tropical storms.

14 of those names become real storms each season, with an average of 7 becoming hurricanes and 3 becoming major hurricanes, Category 3 or higher on the Saffir–Simpson scale.

Hurricane season in the Atlantic runs from June to November .

That means there are 4 1/2 more months in this year's hurricane season.

Beryl is only the beginning of this season list of name, B being the 2nd of the alphabet.

Therefore the possibility of another hurricane or hurricanes forming and hitting the gulf coast are very likely and it's also very likely those hurricane or hurricanes will be higher than a Cat-1.

Next time Houston gets hit by a hurricane and the power drops out across the city and Harris county and surrounding counties for 3 million people, linemen and utility workers out of town and states can stay away.

Let 3,000 Centerpoint linemen and utility workers restore power without the help of the 12,000 that came into town from across the country to help.

Folks were complaining about being without power for up to 9 days? Next time it will be 3 months..

During the time I lived in Houston, 51 hurricanes and tropical storms (Allison in 2001 makes Hurricane Beryl looks like an April shower) and tropical depressions have hit Houston and caused widespread damage and power outage, with some of those outages lasting weeks.

Linemen and utility workers have always come in from across the country to help.

But never do I remember they were being threatened with violence and held at gunpoint and assaulted and beaten to death .

I also don't remember folks ever complaining about lack of power the way they did this time with Beryl.

We put up with it and suffered and were inconvenienced and we waited.

There is no such thing as a socialist utopia in Texas. No matter what city you live in. Republicans have gerrymandered the state so egregiously democrats have absolutely no power. The failure of the electric grid we have is directly related to the electric market we have now. If the infrastructure we have now needs to be upgraded to be more resilient that can only happen when the politicians that run the market allocate the funds to make those upgrades.

Why do you think Socialists/Democrats are to blame for the violence? Democrats are much less likely to own guns than Republicans.

Saw a post on another social media site from a guy that seemed to have a fair bit of knowledge concerning power transmission and line work who claimed that the fault lies squarely with Centerpoint. He claimed to have stopped and talked with several line crews at different spots around town. Out of town line crews were working 2 and 3 calls a day when they'd normally handle 100 or more. Centerpoint would not allow crews to do work without a "ticket" provided by them, to fix anything. He said it's normal in emergency situations like this for crews in the field to fix anything they come accross and then call in the "ticket" afterwards. That's why we saw parking lots full of lineman crews cooling their heels. I'm willing to bet that visage drove certain folks to act out in ways that were more than inappropriate. As others have noted, that nonsense will make at least some of those out of state line crews reconsider coming to help us next time. Shame.
I realize that's a lot of hearsay to swallow, but it does add up.
Maybe the situation isn't as political as some of you think?
