Ironic in that I just read his autobiography titled "Back From The Dead". Poor guy just had a host of physical ailments that not only ruined his career but tortured him long after his career ended as well. RIP.

i met Walton once, at ... wait for it ... a Grateful Dead show in San Diego


he's a well known "deadhead" and i knew he had a habit of standing by the soundboard to listen to the show.


so while bopping around the crowd, i see some giant dude just towering over people by the soundboard. clearly it was Walton. could tell that from 50 yards away LOL


so i went over and talked to him for a bit. very friendly guy.


first thing i said was "Hey Big Red Deadhead, what's up?"


he laughed his ass off and shook my hand. the man had hands bigger than a catcher's mitt!


we talked for a bit then i left to wonder the crowd.
