Phone App or hobby phone?

I have a question.

Do these phone apps like GoogleVoice, TextNow, hudh or Burner (in your good civilian cellphone) replace the security of having a hobby phone like Trkfone?

You want to have no wrong number calling you
I guess those apps still require an email and are linked to your phone android or apple account.

Also use a vpn

Since a hobby phone is a discoverable physical object, there is that risk of detection by people in your non-hobby life.

OTOH, the apps are tied to your regular devices and some cross-over communications might occur.

Not much experience in the hobby (yet) but I use phone apps

Apps, turn the ringer off and send straight to app voicemail. Having a separate phone raises tons of questions. Delete all texts in apps after sending and receiving them, too.

The app still allows people to discover your messages and calls, so if you're married I'd get another phone and leave at the office where it will not be discovered.
