Default prepaid phone deactivated/lapsed

So last i used this sim card prepaid was few months ago. Theres usually a date when the prepaid credits expire and im not sure when that is. Now my cell with this sim card says no service. I called AT&T but not sure if i can reactivate it. This phone number is attached to all my stuff in this community of ours so i dont want to lose it and start verification all over. any ideas?

Paranoid thought - did they catch someones phone and found all the numbers in it and had the phone companies deactivate it? And flag it even? Is that even possible?
