Why, Venmo, Why?
This afternoon, I had to install and setup Venmo to send cash. During setup, transactions were defaulted to be Public. I made sure to change that to be Private. I even made sure it would be Private during the payment process. When I verified the transaction was completed, I saw the payments made to this recipient from strangers.
One of the privacy settings is to allow folks in the Friends list to see payments. Now if the sender, recipient and third-party user were in all three address books, I can see why there would be such a setting. If I sent a payment to a my nephew for his birthday, his cousin would be able view the transaction. But strangers??
Is Venmo meant to be both a social app and a payment app? Prior to today, I have only used Zelle and do not recall seeing anyone else’s transactions.
