I was in Nuevo Progreso Thursday August 1st
Vampiz is open as there were earlier reports that they had a fire.
There is now a preliminary US Customs check halfway on the bridge, probably to weed out any potential 'refugees'. The waiting lines seemed normal.
I now identified another 'hour' hotel " Hotel San Jose" and I marked it on the map that I hand out freely via Email. This hetel is very close to the bridge.The hotel is clean but there were no towels maybe there is an extra charge. No English at all. I cannot remember the costs as I was there three years ago.

While you do not need a passport to go to Mexico, you certainly need a Passport or a Passport Card to get back into the USA.
