A glance, and maybe a small smile, while I continue on my way. If questioned, she was someone I thought I had met somewhere, but I was embarrassed that I couldn't remember her name.

I am fairly out-going in public. I greet everyone.

A few times every year strange women will approach me wanting to touch my beard. I have never refused such a request from a strange woman.

... Now I know bringing up the hobby life is a definite no. But I have only interacted with one lady and she was coming into a business I was working at. She turned around and went somewhere else and texted me later. But it was more of another employee knew her in real life also worked there and she did not want to chance for both of us to cross lines. She did say if the other employee had not been there she "probably" would have come in.

That makes sense to me.

Having been in the business for 12 years now, my understanding of hobby etiquette, especially when it comes to situations like this is either hobbyist or companion must ALWAYS practice respect of privacy, and use the utmost discretion. ALWAYS. There's boundaries that shouldn't be crossed. I'm sure there are those rare instances where BOTH parties agree on what is OK and and what is NOT OK to do if one happens to see the other in public. If both adults agree on giving a smile or a brief "Hi", that's up to them.

FYI, I am old school. I practice hobby etiquette, discretion, and privacy towards anyone in the hobby. I would hope I get the same respect back.

It's all a matter of respect which I am sure everyone would appreciate.

Just my 2 cents. Privacy in the hobby is an illusion. It would be nice to have, and we all expect to have it, but it's not guaranteed. A good portion of ladies have their pictures available online for the world to see and all it takes is for one of their family members / friends to stumble across it and the word is out. Likewise with a client's personal information. One hack job ala Ashley Madison and all your info that you put into a database via screening is out in the open. In the OP's story, had his girlfriend or wife been in the bathroom and then the provider approached him and then his girlfriend / wife came back out that would have made for a messy situation. My take is to never expect privacy.

This is so bad

I have had guys yell out Jessica when I was walking to a store and when I was friends DT San Diego .

I had a guy sit next to me a spurs game when I was with my son ( he kindly pm and told me it was him sitting net to me ended up setting a date for late)

It is called respect. Everyone deserves it.
Some people throw away the respect others have naturally given them by being rude to others. Once lost, it has to be earned to be received.

In the hobby, respect can be easily lost without discretion.

There is an old saying:

You can attract more flies with honey than vinegar.
