Discreetly navigating the web ideas?

I am the complete opposite of a tech savvy guy. Can anyone spell out how to best browse the web without the ability of anyone (SO, LE, scammers) knowing what I’m doing. My preference is to use my iPhone(7). Thank you in advance.

Depends on who your carrier is. Any of the big names (Verizon, AT&T, Comcast, etc.) automatically forward your logfiles to the surveillance agencies for big taxpayer $$$. But it doesn't show up on your monthly statement.

in your computer settings for your browser, Chrome for instance, you can set your browser to delete the recent search history when you close that browser. It can also delete the cookie files of your favorite pages, the autofill function of what words you put into the search bar, the passwords to your sites and the login ids. Sync your browser to your phone and the settings should follow. Unless the SO she has access to your pin code it would be hard for her to see what sites you browse on your own line. But one thing I did notice is that your facebook and other social media sites link up who you call to your web activity so if you sign up for mobile apps with your phone number your contacts could be bombarded with the same spam and spyware used to sell ads.

Chrome has Incognito browsing which kills history search etc. Top right for the menu tab. Open new incognito tab.

I'm not in the surveillance agency career field so I can't know what agency you might be trying to avoid. I know there are websites with obvious common sense "do not enter" parameters attached to them and we all know what they are. Do so at your own risk

Google has the market cornered on reporting ALL web traffic in real time to whomever pays top dollar - for instance, I have my browser, Mozilla Firefox, set to "Block all known trackers" and have 4 additional plug-ins to specifically trap and stop the trackers the Firefox can't detect. Those four other tracker blockers stopped NINE (9) Google real time trackers ON THIS PAGE ALONE!


Every time you click onto another web page, another set of trackers reports and records exactly what you are looking at in REAL TIME. Erasing cookies and browsing history in Chrome is like pissing yourself in a dark pair of pants - it gives you a warm feeling but the reality is CHROME will not erase Google cookies and history, only other company's trackers.


Google was just fined another 1.9 Billion Euros for continuing to violate the EEU's privacy laws - when people turned off "location services" on their Android phones, it would just disable the GPS function, not the cell tower triangulation function. The only way you can make an Android phone NOT track you is to remove the battery and sim card. If it has a battery and sim card in it, it is still telling Google where your real time location is, EVEN WHEN TURNED OFF!


Your smartest move so far is to have an iPhone. When you back up to iCloud or your personal computer, make sure your backup is encrypted with a password you won't forget - Apple cannot unlock your backup account without the password. And activate either fingerprint (preferred) or facial recognition unlocking - not only is it faster, at least one US Federal Court held that a criminal suspect cannot be compelled by LE to unlock their phone with a body part.


Install Mozilla Firefox from the Apple Store (free), and set the defaults in it to "permanent private browsing" which does erase all tracking cookies and history when you close the window you are using. Avoid keeping windows open in background / minimized. And remember - as good as Firefox is, it won't stop all real time trackers!


If you have the time, watch the documentary, "Citizen Four" on Amazon or "Snowden" (dramatization) on Netflix. Everything you see about the NSA's ability to see your screen in real time is absolutely true, and has been since the 2002 "Patriot Act" which legalized mass surveillance in real time.


Google's own software engineers staged a one day walk out about 3-4 months ago to protest Google's AI / Facial Recognition project with the NSA. the NSA can already remotely turn on any webcam on any device connected to the web (which is why I always place my phone face down on my desk), Google and Facebook were jointly working an a Facial Recognition program that would scan 5.6 BILLION facial images per SECOND from people's mobile devices.

P.S.: Since the Fosta / Sesta act made the "hobby" a FEDERAL criminal crime punishable by a $250,00.00 fine PER COUNT and up to 10 years incarceration PER COUNT plus the designation as a "Sex Trafficker" in your AFIS database record (look it up) FOR LIFE, I choose to avoid all of that unpleasantness by simply pursuing the hobby in countries where the "hobby" is not criminal. (Basically, every Western Democracy except the USA.)

Thanks for all the info! I was never really concerned about this stuff, but LE's recent fosta bullshit plus they seem to call every other escort a victim of sex trafficking has made me extra careful. At least try to be.

They call them "Sex Traffickers" if the lady does not cooperate. And that is a Federal Legal designation that stays with the lady the rest of her life. She cannot open a bank account, she cannot take out a loan, buy a house, leave the country, etc. Her bank accounts are seized, she cannot get credit cards. FOSTA / SESTA is the new rich white man's slavery, packaged as to "help the poor victims." BS!

I know this is bumping an old thread...but use Opera browser and duckduckgo as your search engine. Opera has a built in VPN so websites can't track you ip address and duckduckgo claims to not collect nor share information.

You can also get a paid VPN which you can set up to block all internet traffic from you machine unless it goes through the VPN.

Opera's built-in VPN is more of a proxy

It'll still encrypt your traffic, but it's less secure than a VPN

For LE, things like incognito mode in Chrome are not enough. If Fed LE, Tor browser isn't good enough either. You'll need to think along these lines ...
