The concept of a $20 deposit is utterly rediculous. If a reputable provider is sick of no shows I don’t have to agree but I can see her point of charging a larger deposit as her time is valuable. $20 says time is not worth very much

You do realize that we are now living in an age where pretty much everything can be tracked electronically. The cash withdrawal you made at the atm or even in person thru a teller at the bank, the call/text you made from the hobby phone, and the car you drove to the appointment can all be tracked and traced back to you if the need is great enough. The more advancements the world makes in technology the less privacy and anonymity we have.
To address the question of deposit up front to guarantee an appointment slot, well when it becomes the norm for me to pay a deposit up front to my dr, dentist, or any other place where I make a reservation/schedule an appointment then I might consider paying a deposit up front to see a provider. At the time we set the appointment I have trust that the provider will be there on time and not have to cancel or change things last minute as does she have to trust me as the hobbyist to do the same. Unfortunately life doesn't always go as we plan and thus things do come up which cause our best laid plans to go awry sometimes.
