I believe the Kareem Hunt incident is an example of this. My understanding is the hotel didn't give up the video to LE or the NFL, probably some low level hotel employee sold it to TMZ or somebody if memory serves. UC knows of what he speaks here.

You should assume you're on camera virtually everywhere. Look at the Smollett thing in Chicago. They could follow his tracks just about the whole way with video. Pretty scary stuff in my opinion, but it is nice that they can track down the truly bad guys.

The newer systems hotels and office buildings are installing last couple yrs also have restricted access features so that only authorized folks can. At hotels not even 1st level mgrs can. Usually just the gm or the head security.
Also correct that outfits like gas stations, banks, supermarkets, etc will approve release of recordings for a good reason if the cameras are outside. The Smollet case is a good example of how a tech working for leo can edit multiple clips into a coherent video for a prosecutor to use.
I remember when cameras first came out decades ago, they were a few thou each for a nice one and we could tell insurance companies omg $$$ no can do. Nowadays Ins outfits demand cameras.

I didn't say anything about hotels. However, if a private system wants to be connected to the government system they can. They must buy the same software themselves, and request to be hooked up. It is more expensive than a private system, but it can be worth it. I am seriously looking at it for the street, parking lots and front entrance cameras. The real question for us is being able to record the interior on a system not available to the police. Help was requested from someone qualified to know, but he is very busy at the present time with other installations. I will have to wait for our turn.
