Yes, they were lobbying right up to the last minute to make changes to the proposals.

Having lost that battle, they will not idly stand by and face the potential losses if many clients decide to abandon them or curtail their usage or worse -- deny those hosts the use of personal data which is how the sites make billions in profits by harvest and selling user data to advertisers.

Also bet a bottom dollar that even as I type this (crap?) some application developer is working on an app that us users can add to our hardware package (no, not that package!) to do what the sites don't want us to do -- deny them user data.

Just as we can on our computers use "ad aware" or other apps to eliminate ad popups here, for example.

That is because the major cell carriers have figured out how to identify most spam callers spoofing phony phone numbers, many coming from overseas via the internet. Some of these apps were developed internally and others from free lance developers. Sure I am that if Android smart phones don't have similar service, they will very soon, just as most email services have figured out how to weed out many of the spam mails we get and shove them into our spam folders with no effort on our part.
