There are outliers in every scenario, no matter what issue or topic. It's unreasonable to base the entire premise of your argument on a population that is so statistically small. I'll grant you this, the .001% of individuals who have neither an XY or XX pairing DO NOT suffer from a mental illness. Now what about the other 99.99% of individuals who identify with a gender that doesn't match their biology? We have no idea what causes this incongruency and the question is far from settled, so don't just go about calling people bigots because they aren't drinking the koolaid.

This, by the way, has absolutely no bearing on how trans, non-binary, etc. people should be treated. That part should not be up for debate. What should still be allowed to be discussed, bc it ISNT settled science, is what the source of this is, is it a mental condition, and how society should react when passing laws that effect others. The case of a biological male who is male at the chromosomal level, hormonal level, and in all internal and external reproductive systems and has every outward trademark of a male, but "identifies" as a female, certainly begs the question of the disorder being psychological and not biological. It's a discussion worth having without resorting to name calling.

Most research involves advanced statistics, a subject beyond the grasp of most newspaper reporters - they just don't understand. So, what to the science studies say on this subject is going to speak to the probability of this or the probability of that. Observation: all of us need other people, and want to be loved - yes, we all want to have sex because it is a part of us. To be totally rejected by society and one's family is sad. That being said, the fastest way to be rejected by a vast number of people is to be different, weird or a jerk. Because those type of people don't know how to fit in with others socially they have created a difficult situation for themselves. No amount of rules, laws, legislation or political correctness will correct this. We can have compassion for these people, and still work with them while understanding that psychologically they are not like us, and never will be without a lot of help. Most people are resistant to making changes in their lives, but most major philosophers have talked how one can start their lives over, and start again. For those veterans who fought for us, it is easy to tell them that "the war is over". It is much harder to start living as a totally different person and leave all of the past, and the past memories behind.

There are a lot of introverted/reclusive people in the world, that does not make them queer: it makes them different from what others expect. Is "strange" a better word for this? We all understand that to be different may bring the wrath of certain people: dare we remind ourselves of Germany during the early 30's through the end of WWII, the treatment of the American Indian during the late 1800's, or the treatment of the Irish arriving in America during the mid 1800"s?

Belonging to a family, real or created, is to create a close group for self protection. When a person set's his actions outside of the families rules, that person may be rejected and cast aside. Sometimes, just sometimes we have to go along with what is demanded by the group in order to get along with others. Don't like it? How would you have gotten along in Germany in the 1930's when they killed the Jews, the gay and many other groups. Answer: you had to pretend you were part of the main group.
