Well, first - don't think that "obamacare" is going to be there is you're not already on... Humana is pulling out which means its end is coming.
If you're in good health now - you can find what's known as a "CASH" policy (Cancer, Accident, Stroke, Heart-Attack) coverage pretty cheap, and (Mya is Right) back that up with an Aflac policy - the problem is (aaaaa..."Companion"?) doesn't qualify you for most of these - you're considered "high risk" so you have to have a regular, steady (like IRS steady) job... but if you do this on the side, you're probably good.
The difference in those plans is they don't usually cover hardly anything for regular doctor visits... so, if you are running to a clinic every week because a client gave you a cold - you're going to pay a lot of Dr. visits... Still, if something major happens, The AFLAC gives you a daily income (usually after day 2) and the CASH policy covers pretty much all the stuff with a very minimum $500-$1.5K out of pocket. (I know that sounds like a lot - but if you're facing a major surgery that's $20k... $1.5k aint bad.

That had to be serious. Eight days in the hospital is not often seen with people your age.
Hope you are okay.

Medical expenses are the leading cause of bankruptcies in the US. Shameful that we're the only democracy in the universe that treats its citizens that way.

It's not that bad Tex Tush Hog, even i will stand by America being the greatest country in the world, as much as i hate to say this, given how my ancestors did not break in but were rather kidnapped/ sold against their will, i am glad I live here. Its about the best damn place to live. Period.
Why you think so many people mad they can't get over here now!
Heck for once in life people might actually WISH they was MY BLACK ass!!!
LMMFAO who would have ever thunk it! Just being an American is envious enough to want to be even a BLACK American... or am i going too far? ROTFL

Yeah. I agree. After living in New Zealand, my eyes are wide open to a lot of things. Our food system and health care is very bad.
In this case, I have GREAT medical insurance that covered it because it was a 100k plus go around.
Whew.....

It is absolutely stunning how quick it adds up. I was in for just under 72 hours about 15 months ago and the hospital was just over 60K, plus doctor, anesthesia, etc.

With $150 for a box of Kleenex it will add up quickly.

I can't remember the exact figures, but you can essentially go to Spain, have a knee replacement done, stay for a year, run with the bulls, get injured, get another knee replacement.. and still spend less than the cost of one knee replacement in the US.

So true.
Spain sounds nice. I'll leave the running of the bull's to those with a death wish. :-)
