Default Lubbock flooding rain didn't effect Amarillo...Strange

So I was in lubbock all last week the rains where fast hard and heavy and the streets flooded quickly some streets flooded to the wording on the stop signs....
To those that got their car or house flooded.
I wish you well in getting that swamp like water smell out and hope you had insurance.

I thought it funny I drive just an hr or so to Amarillo and go to Palo Duro Canyon thinking water would all be flooded and the ground soaked and mesquite bad....the ground was solid even had a picnic no bugs I even hiked the canyon not muddy at all yet at the bottom the roads were closed because of bud slides but didn't see it...you have to exit the way you came in but was very nice lot of campers and I didn't feel not one mosquito....that was unbelievable to me..

The canyon drains quickly and the sandy soil and limestone soaks up the water.

Hmmmm. That was good food for thouught.. cause it wasn't even muddy but how do you explain no bugs??? Not one mosquito after all that rain. .NOT THAT I'M COMPLAIN but never seen that before innlfe. IN Louisiana hell even houston after a rain like that it was an infestation of mosquitoes. But I had great fun time not worried about that virus that is just a few statesvaway...
my suggestion on labor day weekend if your near go out there and if you want to invite me, I'll bring the bq

You need standing water for mosquitoes to hatch. Good drainage =little standing water
