For the people out there who will never buy into the concept of trust, there's a new item out there guaranteed to stoke paranoia to even greater levels: the Smattress, a smart bed aimed at figuring out when your partner is cheating on you with motion-sensor technology.
Durmet, the makers of the Smarttress, play up the bed's ability to mimic a syndicated basic cable reality TV show with what it calls the Lover Detection System. Their bed has vibration sensors in the bed springs, which then transfers that data to your smartphone. Your Smarttress app will be able to give you blow-by-blow details of what's going on in your bed, with detailed graphics including a speedometer and pressure points. A forgiving soul could use the data to make some improvements to their own lovemaking techniques.
The Smarttress has one really obvious flaw: wouldn't a cheating partner know that the mattress is installed and then change their patterns to match? Bedside tech, like the smart alarm clock Sense, is getting more geared towards being invisible. Maybe in their next innovation, the Smattress will pick up a little subtlety.
